New to the board!

Post by Triky1305 »

Hey everyone!

Been lurking a while and thought id finally get into the board. :)
I really like the vibe around this place, feels a highly functional board and a nice place to be!

Ive been working with U-HE bazille for about a year now and i am enjoying the freedom of the modular design.
Even though bazille sounds pretty good for a softsynth its lacking the weight and definition i feel i hear in analog modular synths.
Also it will never be truly modular as it has the fixed set of modules, so i cant expand on my options.

So ive decided to go modular!
Eurorack seemed for me to be the way to go because it was the cheapest and seemed to have the most options and i guess all the usual arguments for going with eurorack :)
Ive put together a case with the doepfer diy kit, i fitted it into a regular toolbox from my local hardware store.

it looks like this:

The modules sitting in it right now are just a couple i borrowed from a friend.
(still need 25mm profiles on the top and bottom of the rails, and i need to fix the distribution boards
to the case but i just had too see it with modules in after i drilled the aluminum profiles 8_) )

Starting so slow and learning the ins and outs of each module before expanding seems to be
the piece of advice on here for newbies, and thats exactly what im gonna do!

Im planning on using my modular with my computer and integrating it into my music projects, im thinking of going with the expert sleepers ES-3
as communication between PC and modular, can someone vouch for it? :) I think id like having 8 CV's,
and im gonna be expanding slowly due to lack on the finance side so i like that it gives
me "free" envelopes, lfo's and sequencing.

For my first oscillator im gonna go with the DPO, i love fm type sound, and i really like the sound
of wavefolding aswell, thats something that i cant do with bazille.
The sounds i hear from buchla and serge systems are one of the main inspirations for module selection for me.

Anyway, hey muffwiggler im really glad to be on board!
Im getting so much out of checking random threads already.

welcome! You made the right choice :tu:
This is a great board full of really great people looking to help and discuss our passion :guinness:

what kind of music are you planning to make?
Sometimes things just need to move a bit.

ES-3 is amazing piece of hardware. Cant say enough good things about it, timing is rock solid, tons of possibilities and you can get very complex modulations if you stack the silent way plugins which would otherwise take a lot of money and rack space to achieve it with hardware. So if you are planning to take it slow with building your modular ES-3 would be the best possible solution imo since you can squeeze much more from a modest setup with ES-3 and SW.

I have to second this, especially if you're not averse to working with software like some people are. I just wish there was an ES-32 or something massive that could get a data stream from a Thunderbolt or Firewire 800 cable.

Nice toolbox too, just take out a second mortgage and you'll be all ready for the wonderful world of modulars.

Thanks alot for the warm welcome :)

Thanks for the replys regarding the es-3!
Ill hopefully be purchasing the ES-3 next month then, along with a DPO if i can find the funds!

Ill be using my modular primarily for my techno stuff, i like minimal stuff, not the genre people call minimal but just techno with a minimalistic approach,
music like Rrose, Ctrls and some of the Planetary Assault System stuff on the harder tip for a few examples.

but im 100% sure ill be incorporating it in alot of different productions, i have artists recording in my little home studio now and then who would like to have synth on their tunes.
