MegaOhm moving sale

Post by megaohm » Thu Feb 28, 2013 2:50 pm

I'm moving in May. Same city, different place.
Need to rustle up money for the added expenses and want to get rid of my remaining stock of modules.
Big discount:

Delta VCF - $235 (normally $285)
MA20 VCF - $175 (normally $210)
CdS VCF - $200 (normally $240)

I have 4 MA20, 4 CdS, and 3 Deltas.

This could be in the B/S/T section but these modules (and the LFO Two, out of stock indefinitely) will be discontinued or changed. I thought I should give a heads up here.

The majority of my business is custom work, refits, and some repairs.
My production modules barely sell so I can't justify the upfront cost of restocking any single module.
I do plan on building in MU (and any other format) but the Delta won't be available again until I redesign it. The CdS and MA20 redesigns are up in the air. They might end up being different enough to warrant new names.

PM me if you want one.

Sorry for the newb question ... I've tried to figure it out, but 5U vs MU?

Is Synthesizer.com MU and MOTM 5U?

Then the follow up, would these fit the .com cabinet?

MU is DotCom format.
5U is MOTM and Modcan B.

They will not fit in the new DotCom shallow racks.
They will fit in the wood and portable (black tolex) cabs.
The CdS and Delta are just under 5" depth and the MA20 is 3" depth behind the panel.

Ah, didn't realize Modcan B was 5U size. Thanks for that. Jeez, at least I had the rest figured out. I don't trust what I know yet.

MU is indeed dotcom, and other similar modules in the popular 2.25" (and multiples of that) wide format.

5U is any module that is 8.75" in height, which includes motm, modcan, dotcom, etc. It is NOT exclusively non-MU modules. Manufacturers especially would do well to remember this so as to not confuse and polarize their potential customers.

The distinction of MU to 5U was invented fairly recently, and while it makes sense in differentiating the horde of dotcom format modules from the rabble of 5U, it doesn't make sense the other way around - saying motm and such are 5U but dotcom isn't is wrong. It's a useful distinction, but only if used with discretion and care.

sduck, it is indeed confusing especially as it seems even though you list 8.75 as the height, motm is not (and possibly others?) causing weird fittings into cases.

Again, I can appreciate how annoying it must be for those of you who live and breath this stuff for years have to answer these questions over and over. But, even reading the awesome stickies doesn't quite answer all those "combinations" of power fittings and size.

So, MUCH thanks to you guys for the endless patience.

Sorry for hijacking the thread... I am actually interested but I've been on a bit of a :moneyburn: spree, and don't want to commit to something I can't do yet.

That really sucks. I think your modules are amazing and among the best available in MU format. Unfortunately, maybe it's the market that is not big enough.

Best luck.

All of my MOTM and dotcom modules are 8.75 inches high, minus a tiny fraction of an inch for some wiggle room. If any of your are bigger, they're exceptions to the rules. The point is...

Why are people calling MOTM 5U now? Are we taxed by the letter?

Phil, did you try to work out a deal with Shawn at Analog Haven to see if he'd stock your original designs. He had some STG MU at one point. That might help dispersion/visibility of designs.

I have a delta! Beautiful and addition of a vca is good touch... always handy to have a vca that 'matches' the vcf character.

It is deep, but with a little finger work and some 'L' brackets I managed to flip the pcb parallel to the panel... No rewiring or re-soldering required. Its now a 'skiff' friendly 55mm deep. The power connector is facing the 'wrong' way (toward the panel) but it is accessible, just a little fiddly to plug in. I have no camera or smartphone because I spend all my money on modular :moneyburn: but I will try to get a friend to take pics at some point...
