GND CTRL by Steady State Fate - now shipping!

Post by analogPedagog »

Steady State Fate is pleased to announce GND CTRL (Ground Control), a novel compact utility for your modular system.
GND CTRL features seven gain presets for bridging a wide range of signal and control voltages for your audio and video systems. GND CTRL also provides these commonly used utility functions:
Attenuator, Inverter, Multiple, full scale DC Bias and Bipolar Clipping Indicator.
Last but not least, GND CTRL is a dual mode OLED Voltage Meter! The Voltmeter can display bipolar voltages as a needle/bar display or numerically. The voltmeter is normaled to the CV processor so you can measure your changes with instant feedback.
Additionally, a dedicated Voltmeter input is available for non-destructive voltage metering on the fly.
Look for GND CTRL at your favorite shops in March 2013!

:tu: looks like a very, very useful module, analogPedagog/SSF!

is the PRESET knob a rotary switch? hmm I'll bet that a 1.2 (or whatever the buchla volts per octave standard is) would come in handy.

how bright is the oled display for the needle-graph meter (will it be visible in dim light or dark settings)?

cheers

Yes, the PRESET control is a rotary switch.
The OLED display is very high contrast and visible in the dark, yet very soft on the eyes. The average current draw of the display is about 20-25mA. The display can be shut down when not in use too! :bacon:

Always nice to see modules that go beyond what you could think of!

looks as if it would be a usefull module to have.

Is the voltmeter acurate enough to callibrate VCOs?

how much :75: ?

seems cool. What does the stabilizer pot do?

Nice job on the panel design, I like the nod to NASA with the typeface in the upper right.

This looks fairly interesting. Most complex utility module yet?

For low frequencies, the voltage meter emulates an analog needle meter. For audio and ultra sonic frequencies, the voltage is displayed as a solid bar like shown in the picture. When approaching low audio rate, the needle display will appear to be oscillating and difficult to read in some cases. Turning up the stabilizer will solidify the quickly bouncing needle display into a bar. Same for when in numerical mode but will settle on the max and min voltages. The stabilizer is also used for very very slow signals and some in the ultra sonic range.

Can't wait to see 'Major Tom' released :hihi:
From what I've seen on NAMM the OLED display is one of the most beautiful eye candies I've ever seen (especially in eurorack).

OK, so I did some tests with GND CTRL's meter and my Fluke meter. The absolute highest accuracy for GND CTRL's meter in numerical mode is +/- ~20mV
But due to component variations/tolerances, most likely very few will be this accurate. testing the prototype, GND CTRL was never more than ~40mV off of the fluke reading. This is probably too much of a variance for getting super accurate with VCO calibration by voltage reading alone. In other words you would need your ears as well :bacon:

Still working on a price. . .

GND CTRL update:

Just finished a few minor tweaks to the design - GND CTRL is now in production! Look for this all-in-one utility/VU meter and voltage bridge in late April/early May!

Brilliant! Now I'll have a sticker, T-shirt, two modules and an O-Led dispaly with the SSF logo on it! I'm a fanboy!
