Is anyone working on this project, or finished with it?

I'm about to start on it. I'll try and post some pics as I go if people want. I have never done a vco before. I got the full kit from bridechamber because it seems pretty complex.

After the initial anouncement there has been very little talk of this one.

I just got the PCB, may be in a little over my head, and would love to hear of your progress on it.

I still haven't gotten my stuff from bridechamber. Hmmm - I've got most of a kit ordered, and also the tz vco stuff, and some other stuff - wonder what's holding it up?

hhhmmmm... Scott is usually pretty quick.
have you had any communication via email from him lately??

i know he said he was buried in work about a month ago, perhaps he's even deeper in it. nonetheless, he's a great guy with tons on his plate so i'm sure you'll get your stuff fairly soon.

i just sent an order for 3 kits (woggle, jerkster & saw ani.) & told him it's no rush as i figured he might be a little behind.

i just ordered a few kits from bridechamber and some pots and other difficult to find parts......it took a few weeks to get the package, but when i got it, it was all just as expected. i can understand that it takes some time to source and put together all of those component kits and i really appreciate the service because it saves me from doing it (and its not too expensive either).

Yeah since this and the Teezer became available I haven't heard a thing about either! I'd love to hear about how it is to build and some damn video/sound clips!

I made very significant progress tonight. I'm nearly done populating both boards. I have to wait for a part before I go further. Due to some confusion regarding a marking Ian had made on the schematic an electrolytic cap was provided for C60 rather than a plastic or ceramic cap. I didn't happen to have the right value so I'm waiting on the part before I can make much more progress.

If you have a full kit for this in your possession check that you have the correct type cap for C60.

I snapped some pictures. I'll post them up soon.

OK, here they are. I can't sleep yet. Not the best pics, but the best I can do right now.

I've been heavily considering building this project in a rackmount case and have been curious what the PCBs looked like. Thanks for taking some photos.

I agree there hasn't been much talk on this. It seems like a wonderful addition to a modular, so I'm surprised things have been so quiet. It seems intimidating in concept, but it looks like a relatively straight-forward build thanks to the slider board. I'm looking forward to hearing what you think of it.

I wanted to build one. But since I am not planning to do a motm format I thought that it would be to hard. I am building a serge look a like (zthees design)...
But I look forward to the progress in this thread. :guinness:

Excellent pics! Made me drool a bit. Emailed Scott and apparently my box of mixed stuff got back-burnered, it''s on the way.

I was surprised to see 5 (five) ferrite beads on there - ???

Ian uses 6 (six) ferrite beads on the TZ FM VCO....

I got some more work done on this yesterday and today. Here are some photos. Hopefully I'll have this done by the end of the weekend. I just have to wire it up and calibrate. Heh... that could be a big just. This is my first diy [/img]VCO.

More progress made today.

First I had to find the right allen wrench to put the screws that hold the slider board to the panel. It turned out it is a .050 from my inch based kit.

Next I had interpreted the term "bottom" on the board to mean that that side was supposed to go to the bottom. However, this meant that the wires had to go across the whole panel. It also made the board overhang the panel by 1/4". So I emailed and asked. The answer was that I had it on wrong. Here are pictures of the board oriented correctly.

Now, I'm just waiting for some clarification from Scott about the switch wiring. I'm almost done.

got my board and panel yesterday, very much looking forward to this one.

how did you approach assembling the slider board? did you solder them first? or mount them to the panel and then solder? i'm a little concerned about alignment...

i havent built this project yet but i thought i would say--
with all pcbs where its parts mount to or pop through the panel, i religiously mount them to the front panel (at least loosely) before i do the soldering, to avoid any stress on the circuit board when everything gets cinched down. to me it looks like a good idea...

I soldered them to the pcb one at a time ensuring they were flush to the board. The board lined up perfectly, both ways. I attached the board backwards to the panel first because I assumed the word bottom on the board indicated placement re- the front panel. Nope. There was overhang of the PCB which as well as the fact that when wrongly attached the wiring must go the full length of the board caused me to take a picture and email Scott and Ian to ask before I started wiring the boards together. Good Thing...

Whew, I'm finished. I just need to reverse the wires on one switch and put the knobs on. It worked fine first try. I still need to calibrate it, but it was pretty close without any calibration.

I'll put up some sound samples soon. I had a busy weekend. I finished this, finished a VCS, and rearanged my studio with new shelves. Not everything has power run to it yet, so no sound samples for a bit.

Sort of a random question, but when you have some time would you be willing to measure the millimeter throw on the sliders? They look like a 60mm slide but I'm not entirely sure.
