How many of you have 100% DIY modular (or close)?

Post by Rod Serling Fan Club »

Just a silly topic out of curiosity. I suspect I will always have a bit of euro to cover some aspect not readily available in DIY but I could see selling off most of it once I cover a lot of my bases with DIY. I’m curious what others are doing.

I've got two modulars that are 100% diy. One is a 1/4" thing with 3 VCO's, 3 VCF's, 2 VCA's, S&H, ring mod, 2 ADSR, a Sequencer, 2 lag generators, 2 mixers and a VC cross fader. The other is a best of CGS with a VCO panel and a sequencer.

What modules can't you diy?

all diy. it is super small but i figured this was the best way to get started! the only thing that isn't "diy" is the f(h) plague bearer and soon the f(h) choices. but my case is in an old stand up arcade!!!

All DIY modular... well, with the exception that I buy PCBs and don't make my own components :hihi:

Panels are hand burned wood in MOTM format. All a random mix from pcbs I picked up at various runs on electro-music.com and here, and some MFOS, CGS and (soon) Oakley.

it's not done yet! :despair: most of the modules are built and tested, now just banging my head against front panel designs! but i do have a little website with all my projects on it, including this one with info along the way.

Mine's DIY. I etched most of the boards for it and laid a bunch out in Eagle CAD. I have a Mankato Filter, 2 TH - 101, a couple midibox boards for the MBCV and an MFOS ADSR board that were factory made. All the rest are DIY :tu:

I'd almost class my work as DIY but I'm sure others would disagree!

I got thin (3mm) plywood, which is available from almost any DIY store. I also use thin cherry for other projects, and I get that from Arnhemse Fijnhouthandel in Arnhem, NL.

Maybe I didn't articulate the question very well. All I meant by DIY was not "off the shelf" complete modules from a manufacturer, not the level of DIY involved.

I'm not asking what percentage of your DIY is DIY. I'm asking what percentage of your moduler synth gear is DIY (ie. did you sell off most of your non-diy euro, 5U, etc. once you got to a certain point with your DIY?)

@widdly re: "What modules can't you diy?"

Digital modules don’t seem to be very well represented in DIY land. I will probably be keeping a couple digital VCOs(Hertz Donut, E340/E350, Piston Honda, etc.). I haven’t found a DIY serge SSG, which makes me think I might keep the Sport Modulator around. I will probably keep the pressure points modules as I’ve not seen a good DIY equivalent.
