Q104 freezes up?

Post by zapp550 »

Anybody else had this happen to them?

This has happened to me on a couple of occasions and the only way i've been able resolve it was by turning the power off and back on for the modular. :hmm:

I've never had a problem with mine. What do you mean by "locked up?" If you mean stuck notes, I guess you've tried sending a note off message when it happens? Or do you mean it just stops working?

Cheers,

Stops working period. It usually happens when i've got really heavy patching going on. I was wondering though if maybe I need to upgrade my power supply as i'm approaching the 22 spaces? My entry system supply crapped out on me last year and Roger was kind enough to send me a new one.. how do I know what supply I got? My supply says 5V DC at 8A w/ovp and +/-15 DC at 1.5A.. which sounds like a QPS1.

shouldn't be the power supply. i've run two 22 space cabinets off a qps1 no problem at all.

I've run a 44 and half a 22 off the same QPS1. There should be no issue, given that an "off-the-shelf" Studio-66 system uses that same supply.

Mine has frozen up a couple of times, once due to having way too much midi data happening on channel 1 and the other time because of a setting on my moog mp201 (a patch wasn't merging midi in w/ midi out and that freaked the Q104 out).

Mine has crashed, perhaps around 4 times in the 3 years I've owned it. A quick power on/off sorts it. :hmm:

Not really an issue for me as my modular is mainly a studio instrument....

Hmm . . . now I'm wanting to flood it with midi data to see if I can crash it. If this is a known/common issue (sounds like it is), it seems like you could resolve it by filtering data transmitted on that channel. Obviously, there wouldn't seem to be much use for data unrelated to the Q104's basic functions anyway, and limiting it would probably also improve timing.
