I thought someone might like a link to these:
Here are some that split to 3.5mm for you cross-format rangers.

Those look just like the ones I used to get from Radio Shack. They work pretty well and save a patch cord compared to using a multiple.Cat-A-Tonic wrote:I thought someone might like a link to these:

When buying these, especially the very inexpensive ones, only buy a very small amount (like one or no more than three) at first to make sure they are "good" before you buy a lot of them. I have a fairly old one made by Akai and it workds GREAT!
But a while back I bout a lot of 10 generic ones off of Ebay and they were absolut garbage. Something about the quality of materials and design caused them to permanently fail as soon as you inserted plugs into both holes at the same time!
. . .
I guess no DP fun with those prudish bitches!

Yes, they are just like stackables or mults. aside from form factor.
Yes, you should make sure the quality is good before you buy a boatload.
I cannot vouch for the 1/4" ones,
but the variety of 3.5mm ones I have picked up have all been fine
for over a year of use; even the cheapest ones.

Stacking the 1/4" ones gets awkward. Mine don't fit that snugly in a Switchcraft 112A jack. It's a little wobbly. I've stacked two to get a 4-way multiple. More than that and you have a leaning tower of Pisa. A wrong move and you could damage the module. You're better off with a multiple for more than four connections.

Hmm... This seems to come up often in 5U land. At least three threads lately have had this discussion. I used to use the splitter jacks back-in-the-day, but they always seemed to crap out and damage a jack at some point.
I like plain old "Y" cables. Combined with a Multi they are pretty hard to mess up something. I like the ones from Musician's Friend (Rapco). I also use the hell out of Distributors (Q147 from synthesizers.com).
You can get 3 long Y cables for the price of a multiple or 4 short ones.

They have a sale going right now on the short ones. $12 each.

I know it is a space-waster, but I like having a mult right in front of me along with the modules. Even if I'm only sending a signal to 2 modules, I like to think about sending it to more sometimes. (Or I'll send it to my oscilloscope.)
Perhaps a "meet-in-the middle" solution is to grab a blank 1U panel from Roger, and drill it like the MOTM multiple.

You can squeeze one more multiple in there than Roger does! Check out the MegaOhm PDF here, on wiring up a multiple:

It is really simple!

so my adapters showed up today and they were complete shit. half didn't fit in in jacks and the ones that did fit didn't even make a connection. tried a few different types of cables, same deal. steer clear of those. its a shame too because i could really use just a little bit of stackable love but alas.. . right after i ordered those i saw the same in that ratshack, thought about comparing. maybe i will. i hate that it is this easy in the world to get cheap fucking disposable crap. us humans got it all wrong.

Maybe I've just been lucky but I bought 5 cheap y-splitters for about $0.25 each and I've been using them for 5 years with no issues. They're so convenient I rarely have to use my multiples module. In fact, they're so good I just bought another 3 yesterday.dude wrote:so my adapters showed up today and they were complete shit. half didn't fit in in jacks and the ones that did fit didn't even make a connection. tried a few different types of cables, same deal. steer clear of those. its a shame too because i could really use just a little bit of stackable love but alas.. . right after i ordered those i saw the same in that ratshack, thought about comparing. maybe i will. i hate that it is this easy in the world to get cheap fucking disposable crap. us humans got it all wrong.

i don't like the idea of having to convince someone to make a product though. the value is obvious. i have no idea what the honest demand would be. the 5u crowd is much more stuffy and picky than euro and the physical product seems more difficult to have durable quality the bigger the cable need without putting serious strain on the jacks. all that being said, how does he need to be courted? lets fucking do it. i would certainly buy some.thermionicjunky wrote:Gur is interested in producing 1/4-inch stackables.
