Another test turned into a video.

A patch I almost discarded but I decided to just audio record it and then I got a wild hair and made a video out of it. I was testing the Modcan 23B diode filter (thanks Liam! :tu: ) and started adding stuff.

I quite liked that one! Why almost in the discard pile?

Thank you kind sir! :hail:

I don't know, looking at it tonight I guess it isn't so bad, but . . . . I guess it has sort of a compressed muddy sound (hence the original inspiration for the title) and I think it could have been a lot better. :sadbanana:

Very nice piece -- and great use of an excellent filter (THE FILTER MADE OF DIODES!!). I love the 23B Filter and it's always nice to hear someone else using it as well.

 it's sorta like this new emoticon!

:fap:

FYI for those interested, basically the patch is off the top of my head:

The melodic part is a MOTM-300 VCO with CV from a MOTM-650 MIDI-CV converter into a Modcan 23B diode VCF that is being modulated by a DotCom Q960 sequencer, Moon 563 trigger sequencer and MOTM-800 EG etc. I played the note changes in real-time from a keyboard.

The drums are a TR-505 drum machine run through a Hordijk filter with MOTM-380 LFO modulating it.

The MIDI from the TR-505 is run into a Moon 553 MidToCV converter which sends clock to the Q960.

Most of what you are hearing as pitch changes is the resonance of the diaode filter and the fast arps in the "diamond" is just coming from a multi tapped delay patch on a rack mount Roland RSP-550 effect unit.

I don't see the video on my iPod for some reason. :despair:

I'm curious to hear if you are experiencing the issues that dude had. I sold him this filter and never encountered any problems. It was previously owned by two other wigglers who didn't have any issues either.

I liked this too! Liam demoed me the diode filter a while back and I can really see why one would love it.

Me too. I think, on the whole, I like it better than a crispy clean patch. I  filter nonlinearities.

A gem! :hihi:

I am fond of diode filters myself as well. The STG Sea Devils and Oakley Super Diode Ladder are the ones I seem to gravitate towards on most patches now. That Modacan really sounds nice.

Call me funny (better than what most call me) but I don't find it "muddy" at all. I tend to equalize most of my stuff for old vinyl or worn tape sounds anyway. I have a pet peeve about deaf rock musician's type of EQ which almost always sounds tinny to me. Of course I'm an old bass guitar player so you and I are probably different (but could jam - right?).

Great stuff John :hail:

The arp chord changes turn this into a kind of twisted Mike Oldfield thing. Really like it.
