Thanks for your kind comments, folks! It was nice to be able to meet everyone and share the beast. AHNEers are a great bunch of people! parasitk we missed you this year!
The last modules (that I had bought used; Thanks SquidboatCommander!) arrived the evening before the meet, so I took that as a sign that I had to bring the whole beast out. The power and density of this setup is pretty remarkable...I definitely feel like I have "arrived", and I have my wonderwall. Cynthia really set me up with the second cabinet. And Bruce, well, the whole thing wouldn't exist without Bruce.

thanks for letting me touch it! it was my first time patching an analog modular. you were very helpful. I think we learned a lot from each other and I'm totally hooked on modulars now. gonna build a MOTM.
P.S. not to derail the thread but does anyone know if there are pics online of that huge MOTM that was there and if he wiggles.

Lovely!
I just finished creating a third tower yesterday and if I took out my remaining blank space I think we'd have roughly the same size rig. Very cool to see someone else with my one-of-everything approach (and duplicates of favorites). I don't have any discipline with showing restraint for some of the odd gems so I had to let mine get this big as well
You have me beat with the nice cases though. I have the oak panels ready to go but I need to learn how to use this router I bought...
And I love your keyboard choice as well! Before I completely succumbed to the modular aside from an old Akai sequencer and a pair of Mirages, a TG77 was my favorite digital synth.
Thanks for sharing the pic

Did you mount your modules directly onto the wood or are there any metal strips screwed onto the wood?
Asking because I am also thinking to go "wooden" with my Modcan A and sell my quite expensive metal cases. And you get a lot more density - which I like. The metal cases are sturdy but bulky.

Could it be Beermaster's synth? Afaik, he doesn't hang around these parts (at least the 5U forum).EATyourGUITAR wrote:P.S. not to derail the thread but does anyone know if there are pics online of that huge MOTM that was there and if he wiggles.
aren't modcan grounds carried/connected via the rails? wood mounting might prove troublesome in some cases. maybe it is just the b series which does this?modularfreak wrote:Did you mount your modules directly onto the wood or are there any metal strips screwed onto the wood?

This may invoke dude's natural response to fling pooparasitk wrote:My A System is in wood with no grounding issues whatsoever. Must just be a B thing.dude wrote:aren't modcan grounds carried/connected via the rails? wood mounting might prove troublesome in some cases. maybe it is just the b series which does this?
I think you are right dude, but there is rarely problems, it seems. I was going to use aluminum tape to ground my modcan A, but I never have issues in my wood cabinet either.

i think the only way problems would become likely or possible are if multiple power supplies are used. but even then if grounds were connected somehow than it wouldn't be a big deal. i am asking bruce about it atm anyway just for clarity on helping people design in the best way for their needs. i really don't know shit about A series but i have had grounding issues with my B series with multiple power supplies, so it may be a case by case thing. best to be educated or to be on the safe side because man does it fucking blow when unexpected issues arise.

did you have grounding issues with the multiple PSU if you plugged them into the same outlet or same powerstrip? That shares the ground and often eliminates the 60 cycle hum, if that is/was indeed the issue.dude wrote:i think the only way problems would become likely or possible are if multiple power supplies are used. but even then if grounds were connected somehow than it wouldn't be a big deal. i am asking bruce about it atm anyway just for clarity on helping people design in the best way for their needs. i really don't know shit about A series but i have had grounding issues with my B series with multiple power supplies, so it may be a case by case thing. best to be educated or to be on the safe side because man does it fucking blow when unexpected issues arise.
It would definitely be useful to hear what Bruce says as long as it is not, by one of my cases!

Interesting. So do the grounded rails form some sort of super modular Faraday cage?dude wrote:from bruce: "It is best if all module panels are grounded by the rails because it helps with shielding from RF.
They will still work without it on the A series if using a wooden case for example as long as an Interface 25a or PanVCA 21A is used to connect to external gear."

no, that dude lives in England, and it wasn't that big. Granted six 10U cases is big, but beermaster's is foolish...ach_gott wrote: Could it be Beermaster's synth? Afaik, he doesn't hang around these parts (at least the 5U forum).

note about the Daft Punk case- Daft Punk built the cases, Bruce said... those weren't his design...
wow I think in this group we have the biggest Modcan A systems...
JK and Blue have we traded modules in the past?
an older version of mine is below- need to take a new photo with current module config and pimped blanks from ProModular

I didn't know Daft Punk made the cases, those are fantastic!
Looking at the picture, it looks like they have groupings of six modules, any chance this is a 6-voice modular?
