DotCom Format MiniWave

Post by earthbound »

I would love to see someone make these. I was checking out some Blacet and Modcan Miniwaves on youtube. These things are awesome!! I think that it would be a huge addition to the MU format. Sound Synthesis Labs maybe? I would buy one.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the Miniwaves 8-bit?

I used to have one when I owned a Modcan and it was good but suffered from the usual digital problem of high-end aliasing. Unless they've been significantly upgraded in the last decade I'd sit this one out.

No upgrade - 8-bit to the core. That aliasing is some of its, um, charm.

Plus it's WAY more than just a wavetable oscillator. In fact I'd say I use it for those functions the least.

They fit neatly into 1U motm format - it'd be even easier to fit into a 1U MU format. Just need someone to make the panels...

yeah the 8-bitness is the best part. i have mine sitting next to my dvdo and they compliment quite nicely! it is an amazing fartingly digital modulator and fuck tons of other functions. skies the limit on this one and it should be an ALL formats so we can all get a taste.

While I can certainly understand people not liking 8-bit, I for one LOVE it!

No, it should just be ported over to Euro - that's the only format for interesting, innovative or even - gasp - digital modules. Us 5U/MU users don't deserve anything faintly experimental - just bread-and-butter Moog emulations for us. How would we know what to do with such a diverse or complex approach to synthesis? It would be wasted on us. No, the best we can ever hope to do is lock ourselves in the garage, grow our ponytails, drink Coors light and try to perfect the ultimate, quintessential cover of 'Invisible Limits' and post it on Youtube...

how about depth on a miniwave 5u/mu -- would it fit in a dot com portable cab or are those boards too big?

Invisible Limits is a song by Tangerine Dream.

Thank you Ranxerox, that made me laugh out of bed.

The Modcan miniwave is one of 2 modcan modules that are essential to my 5U system - it does sound aliased if used a certain way, but that works well for some things.

The external input means you can take any input source (if preamped to an appropriate voltage level) and process it thru the mini-wave for non-linear/distortion/waveshaping effects. This is something I hadn't even messed with until a couple of weeks ago and can't believe I ignored for so long.

8 bitness is awesome. i wish i could some how turn my LSDJ for gameboy into a module but the Miniwave would certainly fulfill my needs.

This website has a faceplate for MU: http://guitarfool.com/modules/MiniWave.html

I wonder if the electronics could be mounted parallel to the faceplate (like on Synthesizers.com modules?) Then it would fit nicely in my 22-space portable cab. :hihi:

I too love the 8-bit. I think that gives it a lot of charm. I was looking at some Morphing Terrarium vids too recently. I think MU could really use a wavetable module.

I was hoping I didn't sound too bitter - it relates to something I read in another thread, where 5U/MU people were characterised pretty unfairly. But as it turns out, the poster of said remarks had a separate agenda...
