YUSynth Dual Saw Animator Help

Post by voicetospirit »

A while ago I bought the YUSynth Dual Saw Animator kit from Bride Chamber. On my order he substituted C6 and C8 with 1 uf caps in parallel (which is ok from YUSynth site). My question is, what is the orientation of the caps, positive and negative? I guess I'm not sure what 'caps in parallel' means. I have emailed YUSynth and Bride Chamber and am waiting to hear back from both.

Please advise. I want to play with my new module :hyper:

You have a sub-pic of the electrolytic caps. Those are for the incoming power filter and are definitely polarized. Be sure to get those right. Those caps are C1 & C2 and they have a negative symbol on the body. Put that opposite the plus sign on the board.

On the C6 & C8 1uF polyester film there is no orientation needed. These are not polar like electrolytic. I usually just set them the same way so I can read the printing but there is no polarity to deal with.

Solder them in and get on with that bad boy! Nice module and GREAT panel!!

Ok, sounds like I have the wrong type of caps for c6 & c8, as I have electrolytic caps. I'll go get some tomorrow.

Thanks!

p.s. I double checked and have c1 &c2 correct.

I was assuming you got the component kit from Scott at Bridechamber. He would have put the 1uF poly's in there for sure. If by mistake he didn't then you could write for some more. I think he may be a little busy right now though. I haven't been able to reach him for personal reasons.

Hello

As said on my site the 1µF caps must be of the non-polarized category (polyester film).

Cheers

Ya, looks like he sent the wrong ones, I will just pick a couple today rather than deal with shipping and everything.

The panel does look good!

Did you have to send Big Blue Wave a panel template, if so, did you get that from Yusynth or Bridechamber?

I'd also love to know how much the panel cost, if I'm not being too cheeky

Ben has templates for most of the YUSynth panels from what I gathered from emailing him. The 1u panels he charges around $25 and 2u was $33.
Don't hold him to that, its just a quote I got back early last December.

As far as custom panels, I'm not sure what he charges.

I'm always afraid to say what I paid for something but I've been hinting about Ben's reasonable prices for quite some time now. Yves gave me the notice about Ben a few months ago and I've been extremely pleased with the superb craftsmanship of his work. The affordable price is a super bonus.

Ben has a past of very fine quality modular synthesizer experiences so this is more than just a menial task for him. I suspect it is a fond endeavor. You can't go wrong with a panel from Big Blue Wave.

Thanks. That's very reasonable! MU panels is what's been putting me of DIY.
