Rob Hordijk Phaser Filter demos
Rob Hordijk Phaser Filter demos
Hi all,
I posted some short demos of some of Rob Hordijk's modules over at Gearslutz a little while ago and I figure I should post them here in case soem folks missed them. First up is his Phaser Filter module. It's a really good sounding phase shifter plus a really good sounding 18dB lowpass filter, internally connected in series. Like all of his stuff, there is some clever patching & routing going on to add some useful features using switching input jacks. There are separate variable mod inputs for the phaser and the filter, plus separate 1V/OCT inputs for each, plus if you only patch into the fist one it routes the CV to both. Plus, both the phaser and the filter are wired to use the audio input as audio-rate self FM. This is done by not patching anything to the mod input jacks, and then using the mod depth knobs to control the FM amount. you can still send mod signals into the phaser & filter when doign this, by using the 1V/OCT inputs with some sort of external level control for mod depth). Lots of cool possibilities!
In these first two demos, it's a simple sequence playing while I adjust some knobs. They each start out with only the LPF, then mixing in the phaser while varying the modulation and resonance on both the phaser and the filter.

... and this track shows some of the audio-rate self-modulation tricks described above. It's a really wet, resonant type of distortion.

.... and this one shows the phase shifter section in all it's glory. I'm sending a synth string pad from a polysynth into the phaser filter module. The filter section is left wide open. Slow sweeps at the beginning and end of the clip with tons of resonance, faster sweeps with less resonance in the middle section for a classic smallstone effect. I love the way this thing sounds.

I've always been really interested in his designs. Where do you get them from? Are they even available?

Yes, they are readily available. Rob does not have a web site so you just email him (mono-poly gave the address above) and he'll give you all the info. That may sound a bit unusual, but he's a very easy guy to do business with. Anyone who has bought stuff from him can recommend him, including me.wavecircle wrote:I've always been really interested in his designs. Where do you get them from? Are they even available?

I found the wiki, are those all the modules he does?
I also like Jurgen Haible filter designs, does anyone know if he makes modules?

Sorry about that. I'm still using an older DAW app that doesn't convert 24 bit files to MP3. So I'm recording the files to a Masterlink, copying them to CD, putting the CD in the computer and using a standalone app to put them in some format that I can post here.sduck wrote:Sounds great! What's with the wma's though? Not the most universal format.

Ahh, then you will also be interested in his amazing DUAL PHASER module. I posted a lengthy thread about that module over at Gearslutz a while ago with LOTs of demo tracks (and those are MP3 tracks). That thing is friggen great!

Mini Bay is the small version of the patchmatrix.
Mini Mix is a mixer module to turn patch points into mixers like a matrix mixer.

Well won't happen verry soon.
I'm trying to get Rob to be in the muff's section.
But he still thinks it's not the right time for it yet.
