5U modular kit lead times
5U modular kit lead times
I just took the plunge and ordered my first modular kit from Dotcom in a 22 space cabinet and they estimated 3-4 weeks for delivery. It feels like forever, but I suppose it takes time to prepare it. Is this normal for other 5U companies?
Re: 5U modular kit lead times
No. Many 5U makers have much longer lead times.BKN7000 wrote:Is this normal for other 5U companies?
Besides dotcom, I know Megaohm and SSL deliver relatively fast when they have stock.

Yeah as fac said, some lead times are longer. I don't want to single anyone out, because it's hard to judge a small shop off of a single-module order, but there were a couple of purchases that took 6-8 weeks to get.
And as he said, SSL is really fast, and so is MegaOhm. Both shipped in under a week and I had the modules in under 2.

Vouch for Paul at Krisp1. His stuff makes it across the waves to Texas faster than some domestic vendors.
Building the system is the slow part probably from dotcom. I've never had them build me a system so the wait times are usually short. There were a couple of waits when something was temporarily out of stock. Pretty unusual though. Dotcom has the best reputation for in-stock inventory of all the 5U vendors.
Congratulations on your purchase. You will not be disappointed.

Getting CRS added to an oscillator will also add some time to your order. I think the cabinets takes a bit longer too. (At least this seems to be the case from experience.)
Every order I've placed to date has had a cabinet or Q106-CRS, & lead times have all been in the 3-4 week range, I believe. Most shipped on the scheduled day, one was 1 day late (no biggie), and one actually shipped a few days early (nice!).
I've had great luck ordering from MegaOhm, really quick. Encore was fast too - hopefully he's got everything squared away and is that way again now.

I understand that Paul is very prompt at getting product to folks fron the UK (you go Boy!). In that SSL is in the States, we can normally ship stocked items next day.krisp14u wrote:If I have it in stock it usual ships that week![]()

Now it's a race between the carriers!!!

Re: 5U modular kit lead times
Hi. I ordered an almost full 22 space portable cab last month on the 3rd of March. The project ship date was March 23 and it arrived on March 21st. So, in less than 3 weeks. Perhaps it my expectation that it would take a month made its slightly early arrival seem much earlier, but what initially seemed like 4evaz ending up seeming like nothing.BKN7000 wrote:I just took the plunge and ordered my first modular kit from Dotcom in a 22 space cabinet and they estimated 3-4 weeks for delivery. Well, my current order was scheduled to ship on the 15th, but I just got the shipping notification today - 11 days early!diophantine wrote:Every order I've placed to date has had a cabinet or Q106-CRS, & lead times have all been in the 3-4 week range, I believe. So if anything, the estimates from Synthesizers.com are more of a "ship by" date rather than a "ship on" date.

Sounds like one (non-modular) company I ordered product from last year. Quoted 2-3 weeks for delivery (after I ordered!!)... After a month, they finally shipped one product (but not the first one that was supposedly being held for the other one that was "in QA" (for over a month). After three friggen months, i finally got the second (and final part) of my order, only to find out that, hey, it broke in a few weeks, so had to wait ANOTHER month to get a replacement due to "waiting on more product from QA"...drewtoothpaste wrote:Synthesizers.com is one of the few companies that delivers when they say they will. Not naming names, but some other companies will list items as "in-stock" when they aren't even built yet, or will make you jump through email hoops just to place an order.

In the vein of relating anecdotes about un-named synth manufacturers, I recently e-mailed one to register my interest in an announced product. In the most polite way possible, I asked when I should expect delivery if I placed a deposit and also about the chances of late delivery. After 2 e-mails, I got zero response (despite having purchased over $1000 worth of modules in the past), which I guess was all the response I needed. There are great differences in the way the various boutique modular suppliers operate. As if you didn't know!

*laughs* Was wondering when someone would notice that crop of a Rei Vegan picturedrewtoothpaste wrote:Were you ordering a fursuit?whitewulfe wrote:
Still don't own a suit, oddly enough. Debating about whether I'd want one or not, don't really see a point behind it. The $2-3k USD could be put to soo many more useful things (like audio stuff, replacing my turntables/mixer with higher quality products, a new bike, etc etc)
*laughs* Nah, I hear any delays from there are because the tears of a virgin unicorn just aren't easy to get anymore.relaxing wrote: Doubt it, that sounds like a Metasonix product and they don't do direct sales.
