dotcom pots?

Post by diophantine »

Ok kids, I feel rather embarrassed and silly!

I was going to order some 100K (linear) pots for dotcom purposes this past weekend. On Small Bear they're this (I am pretty sure?):
http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=9
But, they're out of stock!

So I went to Mouser and ordered what I thought were the correct pots.

Got 'em today and they sure ain't correct! They're like mini-me versions of the pots used on man-sized synths!

Tried searching a bit here & on the .com mailing list without success, so... does anyone know what are the correct Mouser part #s for the .com pots?

:help:

Thank ye!

(P.S. I figured I would get a quicker response here than in the general DIY section.)

Oh, and while I'm at it, are these the correct knobs for .com?:

You have the correct knob linked there. I have ordered those from them before.

What is the Mouser part number on the wrong pots?
The 16mm pots look like mini pots to me.

Are you doing repairs? Or just custom work?

For repairs/replacements of pots on DotCom modules it might be easiest to get them from the source since the cables are already attached:

http://www.synthesizers.com/cabinets.html#parts

794 1" Round Knob (dual dots) Price: $4.00 US.

QP-P16 Pot, 100K, 6" cable and connector Price: $4.00 US.
QP-P26 Pot, 1M, 6" cable and connector Price: $4.00 US.

Bryan - great about the knobs.

The Mouser # is 31CN501-F
Looks like they are actually 17mm. I need to always look at the PDF catalog pages - guess the HTML product descriptions don't have all the info.
(I've only ordered from Mouser before with BOMs with product numbers, or just simple stuff like resistors.)

John - It is just for some projects I have in mind, no repairs. I contemplated just grabbing some from Roger, but for the price it didn't seem worth it.

At least I think I can use these pots for a different project... gotta dust off some schematics I drew up last year!

My guess would be either #31VA501-F or #31VC501
Those are both 100K linear and appear to be the larger size.

The difference between them is shaft length:
Shaft length*: .335"(31VA series), 1.32"(31VC series)

Thanks Bryan!! - yeah, those look right.

The 1.32" shaft sounds a bit long - I'll have to measure when I get home.

Besides Mouser, I've been very pleased with Jameco for pots and lots of other stuff. Their catalog is a LOT easier to find things in. I think this is 24mm pot he one you need (100k lin):

Some are, but some are also 16mm PCB mount types that we use to reduce wiring, etc.

It'll probably be all right by the time you account for the panel thickness and the attaching nuts. If it does turn out to be a bit long, you can always cut the shaft with a hacksaw.

The shaft length, at least for that particular one, is just for the length of the shaft beyond the threading (per the datasheet).

Ended up ordering the ones from Jameco!
