Imagine the dismay!

Post by Just me »

An MU Mankato shows up at the door and I anxiously open the carton and unwrap the packing that Customs had so interestingly redone. Get the nice Mankato free from all the protective covering and look it over and everything looks completely undamaged and all is right with the world. That is, until I try to mount it in that hole that was waiting to be filled with it's STG goodness. The damned thing is too deep for a portable Dotcom cabinet!!!! Damn it!
I looked at the card and it will fit if I turn it 90deg, drill a new hole and remount it to the face. Cool.
Only the wiring from the jacks/pots is too short to do this without rewiring! Double Damn.
Looks like I will have to wait a day or two to see how this thing sounds!
(Gotta wait till I get to the shop on Monday to get my wire punchdown tools.)

Use longer screws + standoffs to mount it in your case/rails

Is it the portable dotcom case? If so, it is good to know the Mankato will have to be modified to fit. I don't have one (Mankato) but have lusted heartily over one for a while. All I use are portable cabs. I have to do the board flop with builds from Bridechamber, Yusynth or Oakley sometimes.

I use Mouser #855-R30-3003502 standoff's which are male on one end and female on the other (hermaphrodites). They are 35mm long so they will clear any stacked pots etc. that are panel mounted.

A shame you have to rewire. Yuck. You have a nice module though & I'd gladly trade places.

If it makes you feel any better, the first Moog modular was built in 2 weeks with $200...

Mr. STG - I know the Mankato is being redone for SMT; will that move also make it mountable in a portable cabinet out-of-the-box?

you might want to edit the title of your post to better attract the STG, or privacy message him directly.

@Donald: I'll take care of it myself and not bother STG. I bought it used. If I bought a new one and didn't know it wouldn't fit it would be a different story. It's too wide to use standoffs and make it parallel to the face. It is fitable if the board is turned 90 deg or I've also figured out I can bend a bracket at an angle and let it encroach on the space of the module to the right of it a bit. (Will work well, actually and is what I will do.)

UPDATE:
Made a 45deg bracket for the board and let it encroach behind my Reverb module. This thing is a very interesting module. I'm reminded of LPG's feeding things through it. Having fun.

I've often wondered why no one mounts at 45 degrees in the situations.
Maybe someone has but I don't recall ever seeing a photo.

Best part of it is it is non-invasive. I can remove the bracket and return it to as delivered in a few seconds.
