Cwejman SPH2 Spatial Phasers
Re: Cwejman SPH2 Spatial Phasers
Digging this one back out of the grave again..
So I've never had an opportunity to try this module and growing curious about it. Most demos have disappeared from Youtube over time and i'm trying to figure out a couple of things:
Does this module require a dedicated Stereo mixer with stereo output to be used to full potential?
I've never had stereo modules in my rig (or so I believe). So if I were to mount this in and mix LEFT and RIGHT outputs back in an Exponential mixer (eg Doepfer a138) and out to headphones, I would basically just get a mono sound.. Maybe phased, but still mono. Is that right?
Taking to consideration the MIX output, the only way I can see to enjoy the stereo virtues of this thing, is if I had my headphones directly into it..
Essentially, L and R signals make me confused because I don't see how they are mixed back together in a single signal path when most stuff in Euro is mono...
Would be grateful for some clarification and guidance on this..

It's great in stereo, but also works fine mono. The MIX out is essentially a mono output (mixed L and R), so you don't need an external mixer. It is not a TRS unbalanced stereo jack like a headphone output.coomby wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 11:47 am Digging this one back out of the grave again..

Apart from that, yes, if you want to keep the stereo signal, then everything in the chain after the SPH has to be stereo too, or you need two of each module. Just like any other format too, it's basic signal routing.
I don't find it to be much of an issue, since usually I use it at the end of the signal chain. The outputs are fairly flexible with the MIX and L / R outputs, for example it's nice to send the mono signal from MIX to a spring reverb and then combine the reverb signal with (the non reverberated) L and R again (for example with a VCA2P).
Cheers
Re: Cwejman SPH2 Spatial Phasers
I see.. That makes perfect sense, thanks!
I've looked at the VCA-2P panel layout and unless i'm wrong that also sticks to L/R mono outputs, is that right?
I guess I would need something like the Cwejman VC-SC or Ladik a-320 to mix those two signals back into one unbalanced stereo jack output.

Re: Cwejman SPH2 Spatial Phasers
i would welcome proper sound demonstrations of the SPH-2 as well!
Re: Cwejman SPH2 Spatial Phasers
Question for other owners, how intense is the feadback on your module when at 10? I find mine begins to oscillate around 5, and then gets into square wave territory by 8 or 9. Could be as designed
I was thinking maybe I could ease it back via trim pot, but none of them are labelled? I'm assuming the two lower ones have to do with the all passes , anyone know what the upper one is for? I can live with it, just curious
Pic I found for reference

Re: Cwejman SPH2 Spatial Phasers
How fast it self-oscillates depends a lot on what the frequency is set to on my unit: It self-oscillates quicker with higher frequencies. Not at 5 already though, more around 8. I do have the old version without feedback CV though.
