LM13700 DIP version now end of life

Post by Synthbuilder »

The TI LM13700N will be discontinued next year and has been listed as EOL (end of life). Current stocks are high and there will be no doubt plenty available to buy for a few years yet. The surface mount version is still an active part.

The following current Oakley projects use the DIP version of the LM13700N:

COTA (5U)
SVF (5U)
ADSR (5U)
ASV (5U)
Croglin (5U)
TSL (5U)
DSL (5U)
Discontinuity (5U)
Equinoxe (5U)
VC-LFO (5U)
VCO (5U)
SRE330
DCR320

It may have been easier to list my projects that don't contain the LM13700.

Over the next couple of years I will update some of the above list to use the V2164/AS2164, or discrete alternatives.

In a previous life I did a few silicon replacements for EOL'd chips.

However, a socketed SMT part isn't too hard to put together. At least there's no SSO issues to speak of. That helps tremendously.

I made an order yesterday from Mouser. They are out of stock and seems like most distributors are out of stock on this now. I was finally able to find a shop that had it in stock (RS components). And have prices for all components increased lately?

One really has to shop around for best price. I really do believe one supplier puts crazy prices on ICs when they have less than 10 qty in stock...mentioning no names (F**nell). My bugbear this week is the minimum order qty for free postage. I needed qty 2 14k resistor and RS & BitsBox where i had enough components to place orders and avoid a surcharge (handling o postage) did not have one. Farnell have the 0.1% tolerance resistor in that value but face the dreaded handling charge if i order it. I will kludge two resistors now to get that value or try a 15k and see what difference it makes to Noise module. Also RS brand multicomp switches but more expensive than at CPC Farnell. I could not switch the order to CPC though due to the surcharge penalty if i used both shops. Its a bummer.
