Why so much compression? Aside from that it is pretty cool.

Cool.

But he better go back to making them dance
tracks if he wants to buy a 3rd Buchla.

So the buchla can do some sine pad with sample rate reduction ?

I'm joking, this pad is cool.
but i don't think this is what it really is. :hmm:

Sounds like all the opening sounds are Buchla then the pad at 0:12 is made by something else he's not showing you as well as the later percussion.

I'm a fan of using my Buchla, other Gear and Software together to make music and not just textures. I'm also a fan of his music, so this video appealed to me, even though it was relatively short.

Think it's pretty obvious that it's not all Buchla. I don't think that matters. This is just him having fun with his new camera and his Buchla + daw + euro + whatever.

Great...the kids think he's a synth electronics genius now...

On a side note, most people have never seen or heard of Buchlas. The few times I've had mine in public at a non-synth function, I actually got asked if I made it. Then I hop on my soapbox and spread the gospel of Don Buchla. I sometimes refer to him as the Anti-Moog (as in anti-christ).

He is actually designing piece of gear so of course with millions of fans posting comments of course you are going to get some kid that's never seen a Buchla think that. Even without knowing he's designing something they'd probably say something like that. With millions of fans you are going to get all sorts of retarded comments.

And I agree with the Buchla being built thing. I've had people ask me if I made my Eurorack stuff. Your average person doesn't know much about synths nevermind modulars or Buchla. To them it looks like some mad scientist NASA unit. I have been into synths for some 25 years and I am actually amazed that I never paid much attention to Buchla or the 200e until Joel introduced me to them.

What I find compelling is you've got a high profile artist promoting the kind of gear which rarely gets promoted by anyone and I think that is a good thing. More awareness means more demand which means more money flowing to our favorite ACTUAL builders of gear. And... a bigger community which is also cool.

As an aside, I actually do think he is a fucking genius and very talented. He's managed to come from nothing to #4 electronic producer / performer in the world by himself through smart use of the nets, his icon, fantastic live shows and of course his music... which has millions of fans for a reason. If you go back and listen his music from 1995 until now he was quite prolific and a whole lot of it is pretty damn good.

I don't quite understand all the hate from most of you Wiggler folks... I find him quite inspiring.

No hate for the deadmau5 here either, I just found some of the comments funny though I fully understand why people would post such things. Heck, I think back to the first time I saw a Jupiter 8. I couldn't figure out what all those knobs and sliders could possibly do.

The guy is obv talented but i didn't like this clip too much, it felt a bit, idk, half-assed. The last one I saw w/the big euro system was loads better i thought.

On another side note how did Moog end up a household name and Buchla end up in relative obscurity? I know so many people that know what a Moog is but not a single person outside of the members of this forum that have ever heard of Buchla.
If only someone would invent a synth that would allow the end user to determine the functionality. You could pick which functions were important to you in 'modules'. A 'modular', if you will. - Stretta

Keith Emerson, Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze weren't photographed in front of towering Buchlas, and you didn't see a lot of local bands with MiniBuchlas on top of their Hammonds.

Well that's completely simple to explain...

Moog
The Chemical Brothers, The Orb, Kraftwerk, Jan Hammer, Nine Inch Nails, Vince Clarke, Gary Numan, Add N To (X), Rick Wakeman, 808 State, Air, Future Sound of London, Bushflange, Chick Corea, Überzone, Depeche Mode, Recoil, Tangerine Dream, Mouse on Mars, Apollo 440, Ultravox, Dave Holmes, Jean-Michel Jarre, George Duke, Blondie, Rush, Toto, Jimmy Edgar, Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman, Yes, Vangelis, Joe Zawinul and Herbie Hancock.

Buchla
Morton Subotnick and Deadmau5

Actually I took that first list off the Vintage Synth Explorer entry for the Minimoog (and I could easily come up with another 50 or so names to add to that list). In all of the Buchla systems they don't list any artists at all.

Georgio Moroder, Suzanne Ciani are pretty prominent Buchla users.

One ought to remove the non-modular users on the Moog list to be fair. I don't know, it's kind of like comparing Roland to Doepfer when you bring in non modulars.

Vangelis for instance only had a mini in the late 70s and no one has spotted any obvious use of it yet. Then again Moroder used the Moog much more.

Still there is the point that Moog fairly quickly found a good foothold in the music industry while Buchla didn't achieve anything like that and remained experimental despite some attempts.

Why? The question was "why is one name a household name and the other not?". The MiniMoog had a lot to do with the popularity and seeming ubiquity of Moog. I'm not aware of a Buchla equivalent.

Of course this begs "Why Moog and not Arp?"...but that's another thread.
Then again Moroder used the Moog much more.
And a Roland System 700, which has been mistaken for a Moog by a number of people it seems. Such is the strong identity of a Moog modular.
