A bit of a rant. State of tech in 2020.

Well, I sure as hell don't want to build anything. Cuts into the small bit of time I have to actually play and record. Even modular is beyond my event horizon. That said, I found one the V4 thingies for sale, built. I'd buy it if I had not just picked up the Kodamo. I'm also increasingly leery of the learning curve required to make use of such gear. Also, "making do" with what is to hand is an important part of the process. The so-called limitations of the to-hand gear are more helpful to actually playing and recording than the you-can-do-anything blank slate in DAWs, [for example] at least for me. Thus is Logic in all its infinite power with soft-synths, MIDI sequencing, blah blah blah, basically a multitrack recorder in my purview, while my 20-year old MPC 1000 cheese-o-matic is a blast to bend until it breaks. As long as Logic is still recording after the disaster, I'm good. Others likely have a more sensible approach.

That said, there's a v4 thingie in my future, but it requires a studio rebuild to eke out the space. My wife will tell you that is not the near future.
