Pianos? Big, heavy, expensive and only make one sound! :zombie:

And what about the flute? Less expensive and more portable than a piano but also only one sound and only one note at a time! :ripbanana:

They should all be burned and melted down since no musician in their right mind would attempt to make any worthwhile music with them! :despair:

:hihi:
You bring up a very good point. I want a flute that can play chords and I want it NOW!! The PolyFlute!

Disclaimer: I don't play the flute. However, maybe I would if there was one that could play chords.

 Now I want to buy one of these!

Just don't get the ++ version of the flute, unless you like digital aliasing.

The auxiliary pipes on both of those instruments seem to just play single-note drones.

For the real deal check this out. The good stuff begins at about 1:40.

Sorry guys, but the PolyFlute doesn't sound as good as the original MiniFlute, not even as good as the MiniFlute D reissue.

I'd love to get into 5U. The BOB on my cirklon is a 6.35 mm format one even, since I would love to one day have a 5U system. I just wish there more 'west coast' alternatives that wasn't either repaneling euro stuff or diy kits.

Seek medical attention if your sustain segment lasts longer than 14400000 milliseconds.

As far as "pure" electronic music goes, there is no one like RDJ to me. I do think he is one of the only people creating some truly memorable works that will stand the test of time decades from now, in the same way the jazz pioneers did on their instruments.
All good... I agree that AFX has a 'thing' that could even be like Bach, won't be around to find out, though.

You put all that very well... better than my mostly-faux indignation.

I'm an OK musician/composer (more of an improviser though, really), but as an engineer and occasional producer (record/album more than EM/DJ-type), I've got to work with people way better than me as players/writers (even complete unknowns that leave me in the dirt, also a few with fame that are more entertainer than accomplished).

Love P. to de L. and J. McL., too... but, Miles stands alone (got to work with a bass player that met him and that actually sat in with the Jimi H. when he, Jeff J., was a kid).

Before Jeff met Miles, he was playing with Philly Joe Jones who took Jeff to meet Miles, who told PJJ 'to leave the white guy outside.'

Jeff got us hooked on snuff recording a record (a thing in the Paris scene that he was involved in the later parts of, I guess... talked about 'cats with their nasty snuff rags').

Etc.
hsosdrum wrote:Nothing personal, Coyoteous, but them big saxophones with all those keys just don't look very player-friendly to me. I look at a Les Paul plugged into a Marshall amp and think "Boy, would I like to get my hands on that!" I look at the panel graphics for just about any MakeNoise Eurorack module and think "Man, what a pain-in-the-ass it must be to figure out what the fuck that thing does", which is also my gut reaction when I see a baritone or bass saxophone (also a contrabassoon, for that matter). They just look intimidatingly complicated to me.

And please, let's skip all those tired old drummer jokes. I've been hearing 'em all since you were just a youngin'. (Unless you're an old fart like me, in which case I owe it to you to cut you some slack. :hihi: )
Fair enough, Hsosdrum... I love pretty much all woodwinds, though.

Played bari in high school jazz and marching band, but main instrument is...

wait for it...

yeah, flute (not the skin-type... now aren't all y'all ashamed of yourselves?).

So, that one tiredest of all abusive instrument joke limited-genres trumps any drummer, viola, etc. joke you've ever heard.

Anyway, I actually doubled on bari sax and piccolo marching... the latter kept in my uniform jacket pocket (freaked people out when I would whip it out, so to speak... yeah, I heard that over there).

Coincidentally, I work with the Native American flutemaker that started that whole double and triple barreled NA flute thing (not to mention having been one of the main forces that brought the basic instrument back from oblivion).

Of course, instruments with drone pipes, etc. are nothing at all new... anyway, said actual ridiculed wind instruments (I heard that, too... 'heh, heh... he said wind') have made me a lot of money... so, there.

All true... not offended.
Shark, jumped.

tons of west coat type options.. main difference is you need to work out yourself rather than an instant all in one module.

K, I think I've figured out why so many of us older folks are attracted to 5U.... Lots of lights, chunky knobs and analog meters....... just like our heroes used to use.

If you carried a bari sax in marching band I bow to your undoubtedly superior physical prowess! The heaviest thing I ever marched with was a marching bass drum, and those are quite a bit lighter than they appear to be.

I've always loved the sound of the piccolo. In my marching band days (late 60s-early 70s) I had a girlfriend who was a virtuoso piccolo and flute player, and she told me how much more lung power and breath control is required for the piccolo than for the flute.

Ok, it's not poly, and not really a flute, but one can use 5U to sort of replicate a $2 recorder.
Not sure how cost-effective this was.

Yeah, I think I've posted this before, but it still cracks me up...

All awesome shows that I'm sure played a part in my decision to have a career in computers and then move to big-ass modulars.

UFO is the only one I don't remember but judging by that photo I'd better find some episodes.

:hihi: I remember liking certain elements and not liking certain elements. For a 1970 TV show, it wasn't too bad? It only ran 1 season and is hard to find a set that will play in North America and that is reasonably priced so I haven't bought a set yet.

Here's a taste

I'm definitely going to have to check it out then. I'm a huge Thunderbirds fan. I had all the toy ships as a kid.

Lady Penelope was also pretty bad-ass with twin machine guns behind the headlights of her Rolls.

THUNDERBIRDS ARE GO!

EDIT: Holy Crap!!! I have seen UFO. I remember how cool it was that the interceptor pilots slid down those tubes to their ships. Totally awesome. Thanks so much for the clips.

Incidentally, I think the purple colour of the women's hair is the colour du jour for 2018. Plus ça change - plus ç'est la même chose

I really prefer old TV and movies to the junk they put out nowadays. As I write this I'm watching one of my favourite movies - The Omega Man.
