Is there a unique phrase your family uses for your modular?

Anything modular synth-related that is not format-specific.

Flashed an unracked module in the direction of the kiddos, consensus is that it is "one of those things, those cord things that make sounds"
None signature.

My friend calls it "buttons," but she calls everything "buttons"--rack gear, pedals, mixer, etc.

"the college fund" was what my wife called it for years. Now that my daughter is getting a free ride through college, she'll come up with something new I'm sure.

My wife doesn't have a name for my modular but she refers to what I do with it as 'mooping' and the music that I make with it as 'meep moop.'

"Are you going to moop all day tomorrow?" "Probably." "Cool."

my wife calls them synths, but we both use "studio" as a verb, like "are you going to studio tonight?" "yes i will be studio-ing tonight"

My wife used to call it an MPC, because I had an MPC first. Eventually she caught on, now everything is a synthasizA.

My wife is a Froebel Gifts enthusiast (look it up) and she refers to her hours of Froebel block play and study as Froebeling. By extension, my wiggling is also Froebeling.

My roommate called it my "wiggle board" the other day. He is completely unaware of this website.

My wife just calls it the synth, but she tells people I'm doing "guitar stuff" when she doesn't feel like explaining to people why I'm at home rather than being social.

So does my wife!

Between the modular and my passion for old aeroplanes, she wishes I would have an affair and be less of an embarrassing geek to our friends!

After a particularly loud wiggling session my brother casually asked "Did they reply?"

When I asked who he simply said "The lads from your home planet that you were trying to contact for the past hour!"

When I was doing my masters in music tech Dad used to call all the compositions "That quare (Irish pronunciation of queer meaning strange or unusual) stuff you do be getting up to!"

Mum likes my stuff (or is good at pretending) so I usually pop my head in the room and say "This is going to be loud for 20mins" or whatever duration. She has often stopped by (usually a guitar jam) and said she likes the tune or the previous one or whatever.

But the thing between Dad, the brother and myself is to relentlessly rip the piss out of the others regardless of what they are doing - usually ends up with the three of us in stitches! Good times!

My partner knows it generally as 'Musicing', and when I leave it on its 'Blackpool illuminations'.
She cannot understand why it (and the rest - keys, midi leads etc)has to look so messy.....

I have a friend who refers to the modules as “cards”. “Is that a new card?”

When my youngest started to speak, I think he tried to say Modular, and it came out Mawmaw.

So since then all* synthesisers/drum machines/music tech are my mawmaws.

they know its called modular, we just all refer to it as mawmaws.

* Roli Blocks gets its own name for some reason...
