Cwejman VCOs are rare but are very precise, and VCO-6 is tiny (14hp for 6 outputs, and 3 (!!) FM inputs, and track on 8 octaves (!!!)).

You are short on HP, but if you make some place on your rack, Haible living vco is the ultimate VCOs to have. 3 vcos, 4 outputs for each, FM, PWM, portamento, vibrato, one vca... very very nice.

And at least, the big monster...J3RK dual mirror core :

Dual VCO with insane FM, 17 outputs with logic gates generation. The best, but big, fat, heavy.

Well this was a timely post. I recently got rid of the MN DPO and have been mulling over a replacement. This post nearly had me pulling the trigger on the Loquelic, so I made a playlist of all the demos on YouTube and listened to them blind for half an hour while I did my laundry. Once I couldn't see it and wasn't wowed by all the possibilities, there wasn't a single sound I really liked... it reminded me of when I draw waveforms into Renoise. Cool and all that, but digital noise isn't really my thing right now. Then I thought Just Friends and tried a similar test and thought 'meh'. Then I thought WMD PDO and I was sold. It seems to sound kind of flat and plastic, and I don't have anything that does that. Flat and plastic in a good way, rather than a bad way, obvs.

So WMD PDO for me... except the Loquelic Iteras looks sexier and more fun and it's bugging me.

[edit: sorry I didn't see you'd actually bought the Iteras. I'm sure it will be a lot of fun and I'll probably end up with one too.]

The "problem" with the Loquelic is that it's capable of such a wide range of timbres that most tend to push it to its extreme whereas it shines most with subtle (and not all out) modulation. The Iteritas oscillators have so many inputs that it's tempting to use them all at once, however it does not always end up being musical (if musical is what you're after).

The Cursus is a good cure for the "digital noise" of the Loquelic though

Exactly. I spotted the potential for subtlety in some of the Loquelic vids despite everyone's tendency to wiggle frantically. Unfortunately mine still languishes in the local sorting office :bang:

Picking it up tonight though... :hyper:

Insider tip:
ACL Variable Sync VCO is top notch!
Build like a tank, high end components and cheaper then Cwejman.

Lot's of people overlook these and they had some name issues (ACL is formerly known as AQA Electrix) but they have there stuff on track now and i can highly recommend their modules.

That looks really good. Seems to be very low visibility in the UK... does anyone sell them?

I don't know if I'm fooling myself but all the videos of it I've seen sound very strong, like it has a real presence. It doesn't seem clinical or digital but it does seem very precise... I am really liking this.

I just got a cloud terrarium and am very impressed. Haven't figured it all out yet, but it is certainly worth checking. My first impressions are very enthusiastic.

Others I have:

STO - basic but good.
Cursus Iteritas - quite nice with a very large range of sounds
Waves - For me more useful as a modulator than oscillator
Telharmonic - A little quirky but I like it's additive capabilities. Also a good noise source
Mangrove - Very nice but fairly unpredictable for me so far.
Elements - Very powerful with nice naturalist sounds.

Thinking of getting a LI or LIP next, but am intrigued by the PDO and DPO

I agree - this is a way underrated module. It needs some careful work but it can make very natural / acoustic sounds, and it's my very best noise source, as you say. Sometimes I just play the noise and pretend I'm Hawkwind.

By the way, I bought the AQA. Very excited for delivery day!

It arrived :omg:
I didn't know an oscillator could be so exciting. It's like a lazer beam. Plus a 'tuning lock' switch! Considering I got rid of the DPO because I was always accidentally knocking it out of tune, that is the icing on the cake. Thanks for the tip.

I know the person who sold me my Shapeshifter has bought two of these as a replacement, so they must be very good !

Yeah, two would be awesome. You need another source for the FM and the sync, and another one would be ideal. In fact maybe another two.

HOWEVER... I've just "finished" my synth and I'm going to stick with what I've got so please don't tempt me!

OK, Folks. Post post script...

No sooner had I got the Loquelic chap installed in the rack when I gets a phone call which necessitates my neglecting wiggles for a couple of days. Here it is (neighbouring blanks to be sorted out this weekend):

Image

Love the way those controls catch the light.

Anyhoo, the new osc found itself parachuted into a part-done patch and after five minutes found a role as a bassist, proving it's not all clanky digital noise:

Subtlety is definitely the key here. I don't think anyone on YouTube gives this oscillator its due by wiggling frantically. The sweet spots are there to be teased out gently with attenuated modulation and envelopes.

It short I am well pleased with my purchase. Thanks once again to everyone who helped. Even if I didn't choose your nomination you gave me plenty to think about.
Is it finished?

Here's mine... it is a lot less cool than your example but while we're having a 'new osc' party...

EDIT: soundcloud fixed, but now I'm not sure what the point of it was in the first place... here's a more typical example of the sound of the UP73R when it's doing mad stuff (only thing added is a tiny bit of echo):

It's so cool that even sometimes it doesn't need any pitch cv or a filter afterwards to sound great, just some tasteful modulation ! How many oscillators can boast that ?
My favorite oscillator !

Ps: it's very close to the Shapeshifter in my case too :)

Has your track a long URL? I had to shorten mine.
