Pamela's New Workout. Pretty sure I've used it in every patch since I got it.

it's not really the VCAs that make it so awesome, at least for my patching style, but the feedback routing possibilities... which of course can all be CV'd. Consider a simple example:starthief wrote:With that one, do you actually have... enough VCAs?indigoid wrote:Module I use most? NLC Cluster.
1. VCO routed to Cluster input #1
2a. Cluster output #1 routed out to a filter and back into Cluster input #2
2b. Cluster output #2 routed to an analog delay and back into Cluster input #3
2c. Cluster output #3 routed to a spring reverb and back into Cluster input #4
3. Cluster output #4 to your output stage
ie. parallel effects processing. Sure, you could do this without a matrix mixer, but you'd need way more patch cables and mixer modules and mults and VCAs and probably space, and it'd be far less intuitive
I read somewhere that Vernon Reid (of Living Colour) did something like this with his guitar effects
Zap him again! ZAP THE SONOFABITCH AGAIN!

Ha, interesting. To be honest I was never a huge fan of the Mutable line because there's so much going on in each module, and I've heard both great and not-great impressions of the Warps.starthief wrote:Funny enough, I find myself converted from a Warps fan to... less of one. I'm thinking about maybe selling mine, but I need to go back to it with fresh ears and really decide.Bachelard wrote:And starthief - dang, I really need to check out the Warps.
I think it might be one of those things that works really well for a smaller rack, but a lot of its functions can be replaced by bigger and better options.
My favorite things about it were wavefolding and TZPM, but I think between FM Aid and E352 that ground is going to be well-covered for me. For crossfading, Disting is a bit better in that it can handle audio rate modulation of the crossfade CV.
I've been thinking of adding some cross-fading function. The Doepfer 3-way has always intrigued me. Recently got.a Seismic VC Route switch that's awesome (manual as well as cv control) and switching/xfading seems like something I could really get into, esp for the ambient/noise/sampling aesthetic I'm exploring. Maybe I need to check out the Frames as well. Have you used one of those?

I haven't, but it's on my short list for future modules competing for my remaining space. It seems like it would bring a lot to the table. I hope to try one out at Knobcon in 3 weeks to help prioritize that.Bachelard wrote:Maybe I need to check out the Frames as well. Have you used one of those?
Plankcs (the upcoming 8hp Magpie version of Frames) is another possibility -- right now I think it's probably too cramped though.

Yeah, SSM has his very immediate quality despite the ability to program/sequence it. Essential stuff IMO. It works exactly as I had imagines/hoped it would which is a rare thing (looking at you, Control Forge!).bemushroomed wrote:Just got the WMD SSM, it's really great, not complex to learn at all, took me around 5 minutes to learn the basics of it and to begin making fun patches. Yes, I started to 'get it',(WMD SSM) needed to learn on a small patch, and have expanded. The Cluster also sounds interesting also; I have Wangernumb by NLC, which is a switching/gate/filter thing, I really like it, sitting next to SSM and Verbos seq. selector.Just got the WMD SSM, it's really great, not complex to learn at all, took me around 5 minutes to learn the basics of it and to begin making fun patches. It has a very no-nonsense layout and programming. Thinking about getting 2 of these, one for audio and one for CV..

For my 6U/84hp system, it's Cold Mac at the moment, which I'm just beginning to get a grasp on. VCA + crossfader + wavefolder + logic + rectifiers + cross FM + noise source + audio-splitting + many other things, in 8HP. It's made my system rather magical. I would not hesitate to get a second one if I decide to free up another 8hp.
A close second is Peaks w/ DMC firmware. Multiple flavours of envelopes, LFOs, sequencers, drum generators, in 8HP also. I would happily get a second one of that too.
