Dotcom Wiki - Gone?

Post by essex sound lab »

I tried visiting the Wiki on the Synthesizers.com site this morning, and it redirects to the Dotcom home page.

Does anybody know what happened to it? Is it gone?

That was a valuable resource I thought, with module mods, user patches, etc.

It apparently had a virus attached to it and Roger took it down for repair according to the thread on synthesizers.com. That was about three weeks ago.

It is "on the list". So for Roger that means it is probably going to be a while. I'd hate to have his workload.

Forget the WIKI, gimme my modules!

So, that makes it ONE YEAR AGO now? :bang:

I know that Roger is a busy man, and this clearly isn't a priority for him (and I understand that), but it sure would be nice to have access to all that information again. There was some neat information on patches and mods and hidden features for some of the modules, and it's really too bad that it's all gone now.

As has been noted elsewhere in this forum, searching the Yahoo group sucks ass. Perhaps we should try to recreate some of the info on Muff's Wiki? Maybe Roger could be convinced to hand the text files over to someone?

I'm just pissed at myself for not wget'ing the whole damn thing.

I copied and pasted a whole whack of it from the internet archive into a document file. I have no idea though whether that captures 5% or 55% of its content (some of which is quite good).

I'm with the doctor: someone should approach Roger and take the info off of him to create another wiki. If they're worried about spammers/viruses then there are ways to police it.

You can still pull a few things from the wayback machine, but there's quite a number of pages no longer there. (Unfortunately practically every tidbit of info was split off onto a separate page.)

Not sure what sort of a backup there was.

I know what a fucking mess wiki scripts are, and you have to maintain it constantly so that you won't get security problems, so I can't blame him. Yeah, if this could be set up temporarily somewhere to be copied to another place, that would be good.
