Passive voltage divider standards

Post by xtinct »

I am curious to know if it is possible to use a passive voltage divider as a crude clock divider, and if so, what would be the standard resistor values to obtain the musical divisions.

Thanks for the reply, but this is an active circuit and quite complicated.

I'd say it is the simplest way to make a multiple output clock divider. On your original question, the answer is no. You divide voltage with a voltage divider not time domain triggers...

Think of a voltage divider like a volume knob. It just takes an input and reduces it down to via the pot or via resistors tied to ground or 0v.

A clock divider usually requires some kind of CMOS chip like Eatyrguitar's design, or maybe some transistors to make a flipflop, or even some kind of microcontroller.

These can't be passive and will require power.

I had another try at the design. maybe this is better for a beginner project.
