I’m here in Toronto and when I got mine, I ordered a used one from Mexico. Eventually when I sold it, it’s so rare that I took a pretty big hit cause not many people know about it. I liked it but needed the space and money, and already had other polys.

I'm in Sarnia, and when I got my two, I was hoping to create an 8 voice with midigal.
Turned out that no 2 Abyss are the same, and even at (close as possible) accurate settings,
the basic tones of each were too different for this (expensive) experiment to work.

However, by turning the two into dual left/right 4 VCO per channel works well.
Also discovered that layering a perFOURMer with the Abyss, works well for my ears.

Since your experiment didn't work, perhaps you should sell one 😁

Curious why they discontinued this? Looking for a new poly in it's vibe territory (maybe P6?) not sure what else compares.

Finally home-built a stand for both my Abyss.
Both are configured as 4 VCO mono synths.

Ask Sinead O'Connor.

Sorry, couldn't resist the necro reply.

A real response would be because of the effects onboard, I would say nothing. I think the effects of the P6 and Abyss will make them sound vastly different. There is supposedly an Abyss 2 coming, I think.

I've been looking to buy the Reflector Euro module, which seems to be the same delay as the Abyss. The ending to your track reminded to keep looking for one. I quite liked the effects on the Abyss when I played it.

Apparently, a new 8-voice version with presets is soon to be in the mix. I'll be older and greyer by the time it arrives, but hopefully, "I'm not dead, yet!" Synth Click-bait breadcrumb discovery is left to the student.

Apparently not; I’m rather partial to the cheese aesthetic. The sound is lovely, an analogue of the 1970’s black light posters my mother used to tell me to take down. (In retrospect, she was right.)

Holy shit! An 8 voice!
Ive always wanted this synth, but could not get over the fact it didnt have filter keytracking.
I really hope they “fix” that!

The melody and harmony in this is pure Abyss,
background throbbing from an MS20:
Good deals with: Eremitalf, ben_hex, matttech, Elevator Sound, Hyberus.

I'm curious if the new Abyss is doing away with the effects of the first Abyss in favor of Sinevibes effects. Without owning it, I don't think I was a fan of the SineVibes effects of the Typhoon and was hoping they wouldn't be put in the newer Abyss. I know they're starting to shift into the hybrid world, but I hope they don't loose their classy analog soul when they do.

Even if I could afford a mk2, I'd keep my mk1 because of the juicy almost-alive sound.

What if it had that same juicy sound with double the polyphony? Just saying it's hard to know what Dreadbox will release. It looks like it has a few digital bits in it like the patch memory and potentially the effects, but if they could keep the same core sound that would be nice. With that said, what I really liked about the Abyss was the effects, which I believe were analog or am I wrong? I'm not sure on that. But if digital effects are introduced, I suppose it would be fine with the core analog sound, but my preference was the effects turned the analog synth into an organism. Which is why I'm buying their Euro modules to run my other gear through.

The effects bring more life to the sound. I record the dry output as well to run through hardware FX and VSTs, but to have it burbling away on its own is priceless. Anyway, I can't afford any more synths.

I took the plunge for two Abyss.
Will be good to have a pair, as both sound so different to each other, even when set to the same settings.
It's like Thing 1 and Thing 2!

Wow, there's one for sale on Reverb now for about $2500 USD. Dreadbox can't produce v2 soon enough!
