I do like this thread, off topic and on topic, nice and informal, and interesting to see what you other 5u wigglers are up to

I had a busy weekend with family etc, but had a good wiggle sat night (am i the first person to make a 5u gabba kick drum? :hihi: ).

Also had an hour last night, and checked out my X4046 vco, which appears to work! (also got a chance to use and learn my oscilloscope). Nice waveforms where they should be, what more can you ask for? need to calibrate the v/oct side of things, but otherwise super chuffed, proper oldschool build with lots of wiring.

Well, I got my 5U Dixie all wired up tonight, plugged it in, and...

it worked perfectly.

I just have to resize the PW input resistor (because I don't like how the pulse wave disappears well before the pot is fully CW or CCW) and tweak my Flip sync circuit (change a couple resistors, a capacitor, and a pot), then I'll be ready to foist this on the world.

Tomorrow night I'm making a demo video.
Every single night I'll be simply dancing with ghosts

This weekend: Adding a computer monitor to my modular rack! :hyper: My modular and computer are joined at the hip, but the computer monitors are too far away from the modular.

And upgrading the second passive mult to active. Yeah, I didn't get to that last weekend...

I go for an MRI scan on Saturday so once that's out of the way, then I'll be messing around with inductors and diodes possibly actually patching something

Unless...

Missus is hoping I turn out to be a cyborg - so if I get rumbled, then my plans might change

My plans are to get to know my system a little more every day, and plan out my next 100000 module purchases.

I am looking to DIY just about all of the Oakley modules and many others. Putting together a budget, a purchase priority, and a timeline for all of this.

After several YEARS of no 5U DIY, I've gone and ordered another Mattson VC Mixer board, and will duplicate the the module I built in 2010. This weekend I plan to tally up the parts list for the panel wiring.

Well, putting up that monitor took a lot longer than I expected. Partly that's because the mounting plate is slightly larger than the hole in the back of the monitor, though the screw holes are in the right place. That hole is larger now (DIY forever!!). I suppose it mostly took longer because I took the opportunity to rearrange my modules.
But now I don't have to get up and walk two steps every time I have to change something on the computer

stevebryson: The monitor is cool... on an (in)side note, do you have a rack shelf, power supply and distribution for every row?

Yes - both sides of each row are powered by the nicely priced Mean Well PD-2515 http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores ... 2100857_-1

I've heard that this supply may not be the quietest, and someday may upgrade. But I haven't noticed any problems.

I had a very exciting weekend. Put together my very first 5u system! My first modular system at that. Mostly Dotcom with a couple of Modcan pieces.

The first 40 modules are up and working, in my terrible homebrew case, being driven by my Voyager OS. Give me a couple of posts and I'll show you a pic. ;)

Maybe this works.

I put together the case/stand last weekend and put the modules together this weekend. I only have 40 of them working because I'm waiting for a DC cable to connect the other 20 so I haven't turned on the MODCAN's yet or the Tetra Maps.

Anyone else run noise through a sample and hold and listen to it run random voltages for long periods of time? It's a bit hypnotizing...

This past weekend I tested a theory based on the lukewarm responses my album release of the previous weekend had received. I spent five minutes creating a simple loop, grabbed it on my iphone, posted it on Facebook and it's been viewed 6,733 times with over a hundred likes and a myriad of comments and subscriptions to both my Facebook band page and YouTube channel because of it.
I may sound bitter, but I'm getting old so I guess it's really more of a cynical sense of humor.
I know that probably 80% of the attention and hype is pure gear lust, but there's also the less committal element of a CLICK PLAY for a MINUTE versus investing time in exploring an entire album.

Here's the vid I posted:

Sorry my question wasn't clear - how long have you been collecting pieces to make such a large system?!

Oh yes  - I've listened to random voltages for a long period... much to the frustration of my family! Haunting.

Hi alternating.bit I am looking forward to listening to your vid and album when I'm back home
