Optomix Rev 2

just a bog standard comp patch... applies too almost every VCA
mult yer audio into a Env extractor ( maths Ch 1 if you got it )
Invert the Env then Offset it so the VCA goes from Fully open to ducking
done!

Exactly my thought. I could also do with a couple of envelopes at the top of my 12U case, where I have my Optomix, whilst keeping the functionality of an Optomix. I'm willing to pay up to £50 for the added functionality, but more than that, not sure.p_ache wrote:Having a possibility to use it as envelope is very nice in a small system, especially since you have 2 channels of it! I wanted to buy one, now I think I will just wait a bit.

Ah, the envelope follower patch with Maths… I always found it a bit tricky, to get the right level, to track changes accurately, at least when playing my Theremini through Phonogene or the Metasonix reverb (dry). If the new Optomix saves me having to use Maths to get it working as a compressor, that’s a significant plus.craigie77 wrote:johnwynberg wrote:What's the compressor patch? Has nobody bought one of the new Optomix yet, and kind enough to share first hands-on impressions?

I doubt it could be false. I trust the guys from London Modular. They even tweeted about it.damase wrote:Its not out or even announced yet and could even be false still... Right?
Either way i think the new improved damp circuit is the main thing that would make my current optomix jealous.
But, yes, it hasn't been officially announced by Make Noise. I assume they must be pretty busy preparing for NAMM.
make noise have updated their website but theres nothing about this on the optomix page. i hope we'll hear something about this later

loved the old one
I should imagine it's true. The V1 optomix has been discounted at numerous retailers over the last month or two.

I've been wanting to get an Optomix again after trading mine a while back, but have preferred the idea the LxD since it's a bit smaller and I never really messed with the controls on the Optomix much when I had it. I think I'm going to wait until Make Noise uploads one of their overview videos before I make a decision on what to buy.

That's awesome, I literally just sold mine but I'm probably going to go and get the new one pretty quickly... 2 compressors & AD envelopes in 8hp on top of all its other functionality is too good to pass up

I never had a problem with the older design (I'm a fan of MN's confusing-at-first-glance style), but yeah, the new one is still better, with only minor changes. Love the additional functionality too. This update seems to be what'll finally push me over the edge to get an Optomix, even though I already have enough LPGs....PolarIceCaves wrote:The new version is on the right. Is filtering out high frequency what DAMP does? I thought it had more to do with suppressing the vactrol's boinginess independent of the filter cutoff, but I've never been clear how that works electronically.lintfresh wrote:Not clear on how this would be considered compression. It's still going to filter out high frequency as amplitude is reduced which is not a behavior of true compression. At best you can call it "low pass compression" I suppose.
A bit off topic but the new website looks great.moremagic wrote:make noise have updated their website but theres nothing about this on the optomix page. i hope we'll hear something about this later
That said - the new optomix definitely looks great - never was too keen on the first version.
Re: Optimus
Judging by London Modular's website, it's the same price.Spartacus wrote:Anyone know the new price?
Adjusting DAMP with CONTROLl at a constant level definitely affects the high frequencies that get let throughFootkerchief wrote:Is filtering out high frequency what DAMP does? As for it not being true compression.... Well a LPG's not a 'true gate' either, so what? I don't think anyone was expecting 2 channels of studio-grade compression. Sidechaining with LPG response is pretty useful and sounds good. I plan to get several dedicated compressor modules, but I'll definitely get this as well for slightly different applications

Interesting that the mk2 module has round nuts for the Damp and Control sockets, while the nuts on all the other sockets are hexagonal. mmm. Maybe improves the sound? Or allows a wee bit more space for the labels? Anyway, nice attention to detail.PolarIceCaves wrote:The new version is on the right. Much more clean look, nice update!
I don't use side chain compression, so my mk1 Optomix will continue to do me just fine.
