What about the MMG? I'm torn between getting an MMG and the rev2 optomix. I also ready have an optomix and only space for one more or an MMG.Filternauts wrote:I just bought one.
I just researched/viewed a bunch of modules at the $200 range that are VCA/VCF Vac/Env Combos... and this is IMO the best/Well Demoed/tested for @$200 ($215).
Trade off is multimode-VCF vs two voctrol channels and sidechain compression for me. Then again will the side chain compression trick work with another 'kick drum' input or do you need to use both optomix (rev2) channels to achieve the sidechain effect?

You can do it in one channel, as far as I remember. Just send the drone/pad/whatever to the channel input and then patch your kick to the associated Damp input.tom2deep wrote:Then again will the side chain compression trick work with another 'kick drum' input or do you need to use both optomix (rev2) channels to achieve the sidechain effect?
Can't you do the same (mean "ducking" in the same way, without audio envelope follower patch with Maths named before) with Rev1?richc90 wrote:You can do it in one channel, as far as I remember. The damp&control seem the same...or not?!?
Thank you in advance

Re: Optomix Rev 2
Looks like there's a new batch of Optomix V2's hitting US retailers soon.
How's everyone enjoying theirs? Were the Vactrol ring outs on these generally quite short or was there a lot of variance?
I'd like to get one with a long ring but Covid prevents all in-store experimentation (at least in NYC) so it's a bit of a gamble.
Or should I just wait for the Buchla/TipTop 292t

I find them a little on the short side.texturerama wrote: ↑Tue Feb 15, 2022 11:32 am How's everyone enjoying theirs? Were the Vactrol ring outs on these generally quite short or was there a lot of variance?

I’ve had it twice and each time they were different per channel. Long and short.

I actually have one that varies greatly by the strength of the trigger. A 10V trigger produces a nice long ring whereas lower voltages shorten it considerably.skysaw wrote: ↑Tue Feb 15, 2022 12:53 pmI find them a little on the short side.texturerama wrote: ↑Tue Feb 15, 2022 11:32 am How's everyone enjoying theirs? Sounds like a nice feature tbhGarnoth wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 10:32 amI actually have one that varies greatly by the strength of the trigger. Mine are nice and slow. My QMMG, LxD (bottom channel), and Optomix 2 all ring about the same length.texturerama wrote: ↑Tue Feb 15, 2022 11:32 am Looks like there's a new batch of Optomix V2's hitting US retailers soon.

isn't this a general characteristic of LPGs?Aleyas wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 5:04 pmSounds like a nice feature tbhGarnoth wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 10:32 amI actually have one that varies greatly by the strength of the trigger. (Assumption based on my Takaab, but expecting Optomix to behave the same once mine arrives

Re: Optomix Rev 2
Yep my Takaab does this as well. I use some vintage test equipment with my eurorack and I have a Philips pulse generator that somehow is the perfect trigger for my optomix. Just strikes it beautifully. I put it on the scope and the pulse looks like nothing special, no idea why it works so well....etckla wrote: ↑Thu Feb 17, 2022 1:35 amisn't this a general characteristic of LPGs?Aleyas wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 5:04 pmSounds like a nice feature tbhGarnoth wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 10:32 amI actually have one that varies greatly by the strength of the trigger. Re: Optomix Rev 2
Detroit Modular has had these on pre-order 'for delivery mid to late February' for the past month. I noticed that today it's now listed as 'out of stock'. Did anyone get their shipping notice yet? I've had one on pre-order since Dec 1..

Re: Optomix Rev 2
My optomix v2 response is really loooong, so i will sell it at some point
Re: Optomix Rev 2
I pre-ordered from Ctrl a few weeks ago and it just arrived yesterday. Haven’t fired it up yet, but looking forward to it today.
Re: Optomix Rev 2
If pre-order allocations sell out, it switches to out of stock, and is not an indicator of whether it has shipped.

Re: Optomix Rev 2
I hope that means I made it within the allocated pre orders. Thanks!
Edit: just talked with Detroit. Their shipment is expected next week. And I did make the cut
Re: Optomix Rev 2
So I just received this module and have a quick question...
If I do a side be side comparison of the two low pass gates (i.e, mult the same oscillator and same envelope and put the oscillator into the two main inputs and the identical envelopes into the two strike inputs) the responses are quite different. So the first LPG one gives a pretty tight sound that closes pretty sharply after the envelope stops whereas the second one feels like the VCA never fully closes so there's a longer ring after the envelope stops. Is this normal behaviour due to the nature of vactrols never fully sounding identical or should a side by side comparison be more or less the same? To use a guitar analogy it's almost like the palm muting on the first gate is a bit firmer than on the second gate, where the note rings a tad more.
I'm guessing by some of the posts in this thread that it's fairly normal behaviour but just wanted to double check it wasn't a faulty module!
Thanks in advance.

Re: Optomix Rev 2
Mine seem pretty similar, but yes, this is a common observation and yes it's due to the nature of vactrols. Look at it as having two differently tuned low pass gates, which is cool, and may make you more or less happy depending on what your goals are at the moment.GOM wrote: ↑Tue Oct 18, 2022 6:30 am So I just received this module and have a quick question...

Re: Optomix Rev 2
FWIW, if I test mine w/ say white noise to the input and a trigger to the strike inputs, my rev2 Optomix has more muted/tighter response on the 1st vactrol, and the 2nd one rings out more. My LxD is similarly tuned.
Re: Optomix Rev 2
Cheers lads/ lasses, identical to mine. Much appreciated!!
