shred wrote:built this BPMC Fluxus yesterday afternoon, it's a glitchy video processor with audio/cv inputs. completely bungled some of the resistors starting off but, lessons learned. this is the biggest project i've done so far and i'm pretty pleased to have finished it in one go. don't know why but soldering the power jack gave a really satisfying feeling lol
there's also an option for an added photocell control which i left off for the time being.

Well, it's a start. Given that four weeks ago I'd only used Arduinos I'm quite pleased at getting the Braids firmware installed on an STM32 development board. As evidenced by the single illuminated LED segment.

(Really, I'm just making sure that I'm flashing the processor correctly before I go ahead and order the Braids kit)

Last synth build of 2016!!

Post by sixbyseven »

I build about 4 to 5 custom synths per year. Some are simple, some are more complicated, and some are just crazy. The designs come from many of the names found here on Muff Wiggler and other known sites. The link below is the last build for 2016, and is a shout out to the late great Ray Wilson.

Finished a 6u 104hp case a few weekends ago, using a case power from synthrotek. I figured I should get some pictures of it before I fill it up.

Image

Ill get some picture sof the MST VCO (Also synthrotek) I finished this weekend, but it went so quickly I was making music with it an hour after finihsing, and never thought to take pictures. :hyper:

https://www.instagram.com/p/BN5xVhPjr88/ <- 20 second instagram video. The MST VCO is snuggled in there between the Orgone Accumulator and the horestronics waveslicer. Under the Klee.

Its been a productive (for me) first year of DIY.

Great looking case! Is it repurposed wood or made to look distressed?

Its distressed from my building practice and a few weeks of being moved around. :) I assumed it would end up getting the shit kicked out of it so I generally tried to pick an aesthetic that would look fine the more beat up it got.

Winner, thanks. Wondering what to use for a new case and it does look like an attractive option

Also considering Elby's new skiff-oriented PSUs

This Module already had an 8 channel clock devider and an arbitrairy trigger generator programmed, see THIS
Not realy a new build, but a new programmed section: I've added Euclidean Triggers to this module.
8 channels, each from 0 (no triggers) to 32 possible triggers.
In this video the sounds are coming from a (slightly modified) dsp_M8 build

Here's my phase modulation VCO test panel. The panel as a whole is a very rough approximation of a 2-Operator FM voice. Well it is a 2-Operator FM voice, but an approximation of an OPL type voice. :hihi:

:hihi: I'll admit I did go a bit overboard for the intended purpose... However, the panel is printed rather than engraved, and I got 20% off, so it made sense to go big with it. (and it is actually to test the final prototypes for the "PseudoPhase" VCO. The protos arrive this week or early next, so I haven't recorded anything with it yet. 75% or so of the other PCBs are built, but only one is wired to the panel at the moment. (the output mixer)

It should go fairly quickly though to get the rest of it done. I'll definitely post some sounds from it once it's operational.

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

Oh, side note: I do very much recommend the printing from Front Panel Express / Schaeffer. It looks really nice, seems pretty solid, and definitely saves a good chunk of $. I still love engraving, but I'll use it a bit more sparingly now, just for special projects. There's also a dark blue (Gentian Blue) that I used for most of the lines on this panel, that I don't believe is available for infill on engraving. It's more of an indigo really, but looks really nice.

Finished my triple CGS58 utility LFO. Also crimped a ribbon cable for the first time, successfully. Don't know why I was afraid of it. Trivial!

One is built with a 1M speed pot and green LED. The other two with 100k speed pot, 1µF bodged on the back of the boards, and red LEDs.

I used 100k shape pots since I couldn't get any 500k or 250k 9mm right-angle pots locally. Seems to work OK. I think Smallbear has those values, and I was already thinking about ordering some of those dual-concentric Alpha pots from them... Anyway that's another post.
