medbot wrote:Just got finished with my first real big project of the year and had to share. It's a set of Stroh Modular PCBs set behind a 32hp Eurorack panel. I had the panel done at FPE. There's 2 Pico VCOs, 1 Fade4u, 1 Sample and Shift with only the LFSR brought to the panel, a DXOR/Unopole (the one thing not working perfectly...), and an Ultrafade VCO modded so that the fade circuit has external inputs (it's normalled to Saw and Sine). I also copied the sine shaper circuit from the Ultrafade on some perfboard to add sine outs to the two Pico VCOs. It's definitely not skiff friendly... Anyways, time to go play with it some more!

I'm working on another panel to build maybe over the summer using lots of CGS boards. As long as you don't mind big 32hp+ panels you can do just about anything!

It gets mega dense haha. I bought some really short patch cables from Erthenvar and Black Market Modular that have helped with that though. It's pretty rad though just self patching.

Nice work STOJ!
The Moog Parametric EQ was one of the first eurorack modules I built. Unfortunately I never use it anymore, because I'm not happy with it.
It has a very weak effect, barely noticeable and I'm not sure what the problem is. I've gone over it many times and it all checks out with the build instructions. Some other wigglers have complained in the build thread and I wish mine would sound like the one DivKid has recorded for his videos.
What is your experience with this module? Could you provide pictures of your build and details on the Overdrive mod? (Is it a mod? Mine does not have this knob...)

I built this one for long time ago and I was not satisfied with the sound either. While I was finishing the panel I decided to take look at it again. I found somewhere in the build thread that R28 6.8k should be replaced with 3.3k resistor. I done that and now frequency knob has more effect and width. Overdrive mod is also good. As I remind it had really low output level. Overdrive mod is described in the build thread. Swapping resistors and adding overdrive mod have improved the sound of the module but it still does not sound as the one in DivKids video. I will post pictures of my build tomorrow.

Here are some pictures as I promised. If you need more info or pictures please send me PM. Overdrive mod: 2 wires from R4 15k resistor to middle and upper pin of the pot and 10k resistor between middle pin an lower pin (see picture). I used 100kB pot but you can also use 50kB pot as suggested in the build thread.

Cool, how'd you put the Davies knob on that Gain pot? It's a plastic D-Shaft right? At least mine is. Panel for mine will be here soon, want to try to match the knob on the d-shaft plastic gain pot to the rest (round shaft 9mm)

I am overwhelmed with the amazing stuff y'all are sharing! Fantastic work. In comparison my stuff looks like a deranged kindergartner blew up a Radio Shack and glued everything to plywood.

Very inspiring! I notice that most folks seem to be using printed circuit boards instead of perfboard. Maybe I should investigate that route– everything I do is on perfboard and I'm starting to think that isn't the best way to do it.

Thanks for sharing!

Still no module builds for the new year, but progress on project real-estate. Just finished machining material for 6 4U subracks. Vector rails and ears to fit from 1" angle stock.

Here's a 6U dual 40106 VCO I finished recently. Based off schematics I found on electro-music with some modifications. This uses simple NPN/PNP pairs for the expo converters and NTC resistors for the tempco. I was surprised to find that despite the simple design, with well matched NPN/PNP pairs it has a solid 4-5 octaves of good tracking in the useful audio range. Reasonably stable with temperature as well.

I probably could have fit this in a 3U euro panel but I have tons of blank 6U panels sitting around. If given the choice I'd much rather have "too big" of a panel than a cramped layout I'd have to fight with.

Well, my year started off with a build of the THC-version of Clouds, but build-wise this was far more interesting: My first run at converting a schematic (AC coupled mixer) to stripboard, running into trouble, doing troubleshooting, then solving problems located via troubleshooting, some bad ass wiring and a couple botched attempts at drilling a blank panel to fit, boom! After realising it actually worked, I had to blast this really loudly by my work bench :hihi:
