Scratchy pot

Post by muddy ranks »

On a different note... I've got a blob v1 that I love and have noticed that, over time, the dry/wet knob has developed a scratchy/static-like sound when turning it from 0 to around a quarter level. I use that control quite a bit so I'm not surprised too much, but I'm wondering if anyone has some advice on how to resolve the unpleasant sound.

@nimmen, thank you very much !

i never could manage to update my blobb V1 !
( while it looked several times as the update went well :hmm: .....but the noise with cranked feedback remained.....)

will try again, as you suggest.

@Funky40 didn't check yet if noise issue becomes better with newest firmware(as also have a unit with noise issues)
@muddy ranks you could use some typical advices, pressurised air cans, contact cleaning liquids, something in the lines of CRC Kontakt 40, if that doesn't help, worst case replacing it, shouldn't be too difficult
busy soldering...

nimmen wrote:after, jeesh its almost A YEAR, before trying to contact alright devices, attempted to install oldest firmware(1.0.0), worked! Then thought I'll just go with next one in sequence(1.0.1), worked! Then moved along consecutively till the last version and everything worked fine. I think that @float32 should definitely have links to older firmwares in alrightdevices page and mention maybe something about this. Looks like you can't update 1.0.0 to 1.1.0, or maybe even 1.0.2(didn't try that).
That's odd, but there's no reason it should matter in what order you apply updates. The audio bootloader can sometimes be finicky, so my guess is that something in your setup is different from a year ago which made it work more reliably. At one point I was having difficulty updating it myself, only to finally discover that my windows computer was dropping samples/stuttering in the audio output.

I'm sorry to hear that! If you'd like you can drop me an email and we can figure out how to get that repaired for you.

Unfortunately we can't fix the noise issue with a firmware update. The noise is inherent to the analog feedback circuit.

For those of you with a Pico DSP, try patching it in the send/return path using the Granular Delay (green) mode. Such a lovely sound and I spent an hour or so last night just absorbed in it! :guinness:

I had a patch running the other day and I was getting beautiful time stretching sound somehow out of the chronoblob but I couldn’t replicate it. Any chance you could help me achieve this patch again?

There's no quick way to tell, but it won't hurt to update to the latest version, even if you already have it.

There must be a lot of ways to achieve a sound like that, probably all involve modulating the delay time in resampling mode.

another Zombie Post:
got a chronoblob v1 used and it was not blinking with the clock when synced so i figured I'd give firmware a try (OG Firmware no blinky)..... tried so many times with different cables and media players etc.... but all on my (pretty good/new) PC.... decided to try my wife's MAC... worked perfect first time... updated straight to the newest firmware and works great now... and i swear the audio quality sounds much better too
