I had the same problem. First nothing, but after boosting the volume I got a few seconds of cyclic pattern. Turned out that the volume still was too soft. Cranked up the volume of my interface and it worked after that.mcgold wrote:Currently trying to install the firmware but can't seem to get it working.
I get it into the update mode where all three LEDs are flashing orange. Then when I play the file into the module, the lights don't change at all. If I pump the volume they'll go red so the sound is definitely getting there...but for some reason it's not working. I've tried the FM knob at full left, center, and full right...I've also tried from both my audio interface, computer, and phone...any ideas?
EDIT: After trying over and over again I was able to get the cyclic pattern for like 3 seconds before it turns all red. and i'm only able to get that pattern like once every 15 tries right nowbut it always quickly turns red.

Great news! Enjoy the alt Firmware. Truly amazingmcgold wrote:Thanks guys---turned out it may have been too quiet after all..which is strange because I thought I was blasting it and it always turned red once i starting boosting the volume. Regardless, once I sent it thru a VCA and boosted it even more it worked.

Yes, unfortunately the parasite firmware will crash if you works the pitch knob while in PLL mode. The dev is aware but I don't think they have the inclination to spend more time on this firmware.healingproperties wrote:Just wondering...anyone experiencing PLL crashes/freezes in the latest version? amazing firmware btw!

casualdrinker yes, that's "normal".
Like in all modes, in Two Drunks the quantization is applied to the input frequency(the rate at which the random values are produced), not the output voltages. I know it would make a lot more sense to quantize the output values but 1/ it was more complex technically and required a calibration procedure, and 2/ I got discouraged when Olivier started working on Marbles.

Thanks for the info. I came to the conclusion I'd need a quantizer module anyway. The Firmware is amazing even so, thank you so much.mqtthiqs wrote:casualdrinker yes, that's "normal".

Are there any plans for a tides parasites on the new 2018 version?

The iPhone trick didn't work for me. It took me 20 or more tries every possible configuration, with iPhone, laptop, desktop, mono cable, stereo cable, iTunes, . What worked was VLC with has a very peculiar setting in it configuration, where you play back a file at 200% loudness (?!) Ater seral tries it worked at 185% (!). Now enjoying the harmonic osc. It's marvellous especially when playing it through clouds and element and balancing the two reverbs on them. so very beautiful things happen when you control one frequency bump with math and the other with a quantized cycling envelope.sceledra wrote:Thanks for the reply, it's bricked or not. I was able to get it back to stock with the iPhone trick. Phew!
Has the source even been released for the 2018 version? I may have missed something somewhere, but their linked github page looks like Tides was last updated in 2016mqtthiqs wrote:(Hey Stefan) Not from me that for sure, but as usual I'm willing to provide guidance if anyone wants to try her hand at it.SB-SIX wrote:Are there any plans for a tides parasites on the new 2018 version?
3 days fight with WAV playing.
I don't know what I not try now..
- I use MacBook Pro output with VLC /QuickTime/WuickLook players with various volume. Set Tides FM in low/mid/hi positions..
I regularly have a nice start in 3-4 seconds, but after it - red leds.
- I try to use Thundebolt dock Output, same problem. I turn gain in players, try it into DAW
- Main variant - Apogee ELEMENT 24. Headphones output.. with mono and stereo 1/8 cables. Also I try one (L and R step by step) XLR outputs to monitors.... I disconnect everything from MacBookPro - mute anything. Not help.
- I try to play files from iPhone SE
WAV not work for me... its SAD.
I get now sources from GIT
https://github.com/mqtthiqs/parasites
And try to build HEX files (for upload with ST-Utility hex files)...
With Warps and Clouds I create HEX files and upload them, all work.
But with Tides - in mutable-dev-env (where I copy from autor GIT folder of tides) I have errors about Interpolate...
May be its possible to autor build HEX files of firmware? I kill 3 evenings to play files in many variations. Its not help.
Module DIY - SWIRLS Tidal Modulator by Electric Myst - Pusherman edition
Original FW work nice. After trying to play WAV many times, turn module off, turn on - need to rue-load original FW... Because it stop to work after WAV playings. With original FW - I can easy turn off/on module and work with it.

Forestcaver, Can you show us how to "hack some bits back in" please?

From memory (!) I rolled back to the pichenettes stmlib and then added back the helper routines from parasites - I think that’s what I did - but it was ages ago that I did it.... sorry !JakoGreyshire wrote:Forestcaver, Can you show us how to "hack some bits back in" please?
Parasites uses a newer version of the arm toolchain than the mi dev environment. It also adds a lot of helper routines like the interpolate functions mentioned above (which can be found in utils/dsp.h and utils/random.*). So the major areas of change are makefile.inc and utils/dsp.h (I think there were a few others but cant remember). It only takes a few minutes to add the changes - it’s not huge changes.....
