vytis wrote:One thing regarding jacks:

I LOVE Doepfer jacks, the same type used by Synth Tech, TipTop and Ladik (perhaps a few others). They feel great, sound solid (yes, I mean that mechanical sound!). As much as I like the modules and functionality, I absolutely hate the type used by Pittsburgh and Malekko.
+1 on the feel of the jacks. TipTop, SynthTech and Expert Sleepers have wonderfully smooth, fluid jacks. Just tight enough the cable won't come loose, but flexible enough that I don't have to f'n wrestle the cable out. Some Doepfer modules have great jacks, others I have don't :despair:

Anyone know what brand of jacks TipTop & SynthTech use? Need to pick some up for my next DIY project.

I believe they are Cliff 3.5mm jacks. Several other designers/manufacturers ( :hihi: ) use them as well. Here in the UK you can buy them from Rapid, JPR, or if you're buying them in large quantities you can get them direct from Cliff.

like the tip top and doepfer makes. very solid and nice feeling knobs. a couple of the modules i have are just having wobbly knobs and feel very loose makes you ask yourself does this thing really do what it says it does?

i have an e440 on the way and would be my first synth tech module, it looks great hopes it feels the same. next is cwejman and verbos

I got delivery of the Short Bus v2 from Low Gain Electronics and this thing is very robust and beautifully built. The front plate is I think powder coated steel, very heavy duty and way above the average in euro.

the e440 arrived and can say the build quality is amazing. really sturdy knobs and great finnish. even the packing was great. it just feels great and actually encouraged me to look into other synthesis technology modules.

it also sounds great but thats for another topic. also got a manhattan analog mixer and the build quality and feel of the knobs feels just as great. wish i could say the same about other modules for the price but nah.

got a mutable instruments yarns which is very nicely built as well.

The modules are built to last a lifetime, every single one to the same high standard and Bob Williams is almost reason enough to justify any price tag on his gear.
I have Analogue Systems RS-35 and when I connected it a big grey cloud appeared in my room. Power supply is not reversed protected and I'm stupid.

Low Gain Short Bus has the nicest panel, inputs and switches of any modules I've ever used.

Agreed on both counts. MI front panels seem just a bit thicker than the rest. I read somewhere that for MI's digital based modules this is to aid heat dispersion (front panel as heatsink?), but whatever the reason, MI kit exudes great build quality and aesthetics.

My newly acquired Synthesis Technology E350 is built like a tank. I could smash it full power into a Newcastle fan's face and it wouldn't have a single dent. Not that a nice lad would deliberately maim anyone mind you.

Once I got a Verbos CO it made all the other modules seem cheap. Verbos is some classy gear. I mean come on... Red PCB?! And the textured, super solid and heavy front panel. The knobs? Really nice. And of course, it sounds amazing.

Just got a Manhattan SVVCF. That's a solid feeling build too.

My Analogue Systems has been with me for over 15years and still feels very solid. Schippmann is top drawer, I imagine similar to Cwejman (which I do not own). I really like MI's and ADDAC's feel also. The Frap tools CGM mixer individually came with silica gel bags. It remains to be seen how they stand up long term.
...but Cynthia, my Daddy never had a heath kit..
