The updated Grids design (v0.2) drops the requirement for 5V power input by using an LM1117-5.0 regulator chip to generate 5V on-board from the +12V power input. The power connector changes from a 2x8 pin to a 2x5 pin connector accordingly. Apart from not requiring a 5V power supply, this change also protects the Atmel MPU and the 595 switch from being killed by spikes on the 5V power input. I think quite a few Grids died that way - at least, I repaired one for a colleague which had suffered that fate. The v0.1 design was fine, you just had to make sure it isn't exposed to power spikes on the 5V power rail in your rack. v0.2 obviates this issue.
The original PJ-301BM jack sockets are retained, no swap to Thonkiconn style sockets.
thanks, i couldn't see grids in the list on github - looks like 0.2 is the one thats been up for a while, it's what i have pcbs of, likewise i think theres been a new version of shades or branches up for a while, bom lists a fairly obscure jack i think, but pcb is drilled for thonkiconns

The change to Clouds from v0.2 to v0.3 appears to be the addition of a separate crystal to clock the WM8731 codec, instead of it being clocked by the MPU. Not sure what the effect of this change is, but presumably it results in a functional improvement - Olivier would not make a change that adds additional components to the design unless it actually improved things.
.
chances are that'll be about reducing clock jitter. improved SNR, or what.
theres been a delay on the chips, have chased them up and they will be delivered here tomorrow (friday), before 12pm - i should be able to get them flashed and sent out by saturday or monday at the latest
also coming soon, the breadboard friends modules - an easy way to add pots and jacks to breadboards, and an audio out (opamp buffer with full size jack)
i may sell these together with jacks (i've only found the ones used in the jacks board at reichelt, i have some of the neutrik 6.35mm jacks already)

Olivier will put shematics and opensource files on his website or not?
normally Olivier likes to make some money from his 4-12 months work on a module before releasing the source files - i guess he'll make the files available in the spring next year if he is happy to continue using the cc-by-sa licence
someone else has just ordered that last grids - i should probably declare grids sold out, as one of the interested parties will pay, or both of them, further exciting updates to follow.
