Sounds to me like you could use a proper overdrive/distortion then :-)
indigoid wrote:The other night I was messing about with Pittsburgh Generator (one of my favourites!) + Genxpander, Grids, two AR envelopes and Synthrotek Echo. It ended up sounding like an algorithmically-generated warzone, with bursts of gunfire, explosions, etc.

I tried to record it but upon hooking everything up I realised that the reason it sounded so brutal was that it was horribly abusing my poor M-Audio monitors. When I brought the levels down a bit and monitored the output from my laptop it just sounded like a bunch of boring FM pings and warbles :-(

Do really, really love that dirty, nasty part of the rate control on the PT2399-based delays, like Synthrotek's. Fantastic.

So well, as it´s been a while I thought of digging this thread out as there are potentially new outcomes since last time or new wigglers or both or possibly someone going for that quest.

I would like to contribute myself, then the modular is currently in a new case-new modules-new arrangement-phase, still would love to hear some noo-spooks :goo: :zombie: :cthulhu: :ghost:

jido_genshi - very nice track. :tu: In terms of spookyness I favor the war-of-worlds-like sounds occuring at 5:30.
The intro+further part resembling a meditational rainforest :zen:
Then interesting how a single sound can change that mood dramatically.

Hateplow - Quite some psycho-sci-fi atmosphere :tinfoil: :boba:

lambwolf - nice hazy alone on a dark river in a small boat atmosphere, almost hearing the sound of little splashes when the paddle softly hits the surface :-)

bobbcorr - though regarding spookyness I find it at least partially a little too pleasant, it´s an interesting atmosphere aswell :-)

felix - Both are pleasing ambiences I find, especially the second one would make a good soundtrack :tu:

InnnerSight I guess the track could gain quite a lot if you put some longtailed reverb onto it, emphasising the atmosphere it creates. You could aswell try to choose some fiercer intervalls, so the spookynesslevel rises if that is something you would like to go for.

timoka - quite haunting, well done :tu:

nectarios - classic sci-fi-ness. Btw it goes very well if you layer it with lambwolf´s "Lean"-track, one delivering the background while the krell-like bursts are putting according accents along.

Anyone got anything, where not the composition but the sound itself is spooky on its own, like growling, screaming, screaching, snarling, etc. resembling a being or creature of some sorts?
Like said, everything in terms of spooky is valid, still I´m especially very much interested in spooky sounddesign.

Please keep them coming anyway :-)

Just put this together the other day. Realized after a long render that the video/audio are a bit out of sync, but, whatever. Patch notes in the video description

wmctavishnusic - Nice glitchy drone atmosphere. The piano fits well aswell, though it isn´t necessarily spooky except for that slight dissonance still sounding quite harmonic for a dissonance

Chartreuse-J - Veeeeeery nice little creatures  :tu:
What´s driving their hearts in particular? Verbos Complex Oscillator?

I never recorded it, but from time to time when I'm not touching the modular and it's silent, clouds suddenly goes into a super weird feedback that gets really loud and organic and it's cool + scary
