Does anyone still have the beta firmware before implementing PLL mode to Sheep?

I would like to try the one with extra waves.

I did not record a proper comparison however I do have the e350 and, from my point of view, Sheeps is more edgier than the e350, specially when you use the 1bit and sub outputs.
I've found that they complement each other very well. I tend to use Sheeps for more aggressive timbres and the e350 for more "sweeter" sounds.

Sure this is highly subjective since both modules can be used in both cases depending on the patch however that's the impression I got after playing with both for a while. :hmm:

I think the Piston Honda would probably have a more similar sound to Sheeps but I don't have one so I'm not sure. :despair:

I dig the sound of Sheep quite a lot. I guess I was wondering if it qualifies as a full-fledged wavetable osc. in the same league as the e350 etc. in terms of features/range.

I'd say it does qualify as a full-fledged wavetable oscillator. While it does not have some of the e350's features such as the phase mode, it offers other unique features such as the PLL and the different outputs.
Both offer 3 different banks, can run at LFO rates, have FM inputs and sync inputs so I can't think of any reasons why Sheeps would not be considered a "proper" wavetable osc. :despair:

I run my firmware swaps off of vlc media player with success. I like that you can not only attenuate but amp up the audio from vlc. Very helpful in this circumstance

Very much enjoying Sheep as a modulator. Made a pretty great patch with it + the Warps internal osc in the Freq Shift mode. Also a droning but modulated Sheep -> ModDemix ctrl input with a sequenced STO as the carrier is glorious.

Does anyone else want to pull their hair out trying to install firmware on Tides? I just can't get it to work. Which media player and volume settings do y'all use? I've tried everything (iphone, vlc, quicktime, windows media player)

Cheers

It can be frustrating but it's a matter of volume/ gain. Keep trying

Definitely seems to be the pickiest of the MI modules for updating for me.

I used blinds and an offset to boost the gain a bit and it eventually took.

I don't suppose any one of you fine Sheep users would be willing to do a little audio demo of the 1-bit output, eh? Fascinated by this; can't quite conceive of the sound (Gameboy music, but even grittier?).

For installing firmware i used VLC at full volume and a standard patch cable from pc headphones out to Tides. Had to attenuate a bit with vlc volume but that worked.

Winamp should only be used for installing lamas, not sheep.

Haha you are right!

I love it too but I have been installing the parasites too (and then again sheep and then parasites and so on.....) because of the quantiser!
Sheep really badass needs a built in quantiser but what I know about programming and developing is as much a sheep does...

^^

Same for me. I've been going back and forth from Sheep and Parasites because of the quantizer. A blend of Sheep wavetables and the Parasites quantizer would be best of both worlds for a massive oscillator.

Don't know if there is enough place for that... the tables seem to be hungry on the memory.

If only I could code, that would be one of my first project. Find the quantizer portion and drop it in Sheep. Or vice versa, wavetables in Parasites.

Anyway, one day I'll end up with two Tides modules. : )

I'm on the verge of getting Tides for Sheeps! Was wondering - can it do clean (or cleanish) sine tones?

As glassy as you want it to be, as far as i am concerned...
The thing i noticed with TIDES (and even more with SHEEP) is people get it for a specific kind of sound, but end up keeping it for another.... it is far more versatile than its few controls would lead you to believe.

I'm way obsessed with the 1-bit output; very surprised it doesn't get more chatter. Pretty much a full solution for brutal industrial-ish, lo-if aggression. Just wish it didn't bypass the level control. Not sure why it was implemented that way. But whatever. Could hardly find a scrap of audio for the 1-bit feature, so I might try and post some demos soon.

Yeah, I do wish the 1-bit output went through the level VCA.

It's nice for mixing in with the normal output.

Would a Tides and a Sheep together make for a complex oscillator? Maybe with a Warps in there?
Does or has anyone done this?
