Haha value..
I agree though.
..The DIY mythos has been shattered but not by this picture. I remember an interview with muziq where he talks about RJ painting storebought synths and taking them to his shows and never seeing anything too unique in his studio. Plus, if you read the interview in the recent warp book it's pretty clear he's not the knowledgable DIYer (imho) he was portrayed as in the 90s.
Tinkerer, yes. Studied electronics, dunno. He builds most/all of his own synths, BS.
I've talked to more than a few people who have thought he got his sound from these magical DIY boxes. I always try to explain he gets his sound through meticulous work and attention to details. The playing field is totally level. He just makes stuff that good.
That's my only argument. The rest is in good fun.

There might be a DIY surrounding him, but it's been common knowledge for sometime that CAW I was basically made entirely using a Matrix-1000, 303, 808, an alesis reverb and some sort of sampler.
Later stuff was sampler/computer-based.
And wasn't the whole point of the Analord series to exploit the hell out of known synths?
Maybe he's alluded to his DIY prowess, but the actual equipment has been known for a while.

Well I can understand that he wants to tell people lots of crap with all the attention he gets, it must be a little irritating if you are a very private person.
Whatever gear he has used, he use it well and manages to release some great stuff, which I think is very inspiring.. Dunno but for me the Analord series have triggered my approach to analog equipment in another way

i love the picture, really nice colours. the red cat was funny, i think is richard making some soul transmigration.
i believe he knows a lot about modulars, i bet he owns some buchla also. He loves all equipment and he has money, so why not?
i dont know if he wanted this pic to be public, luckily is not a paris hilton private video style (maybe some porn with bjork will be cool jaja)
richard can make interesting things with only renoise and 1 sample, so im curious about his new music...

I can see throwing random story crap to trainspotting interviewer, especially those who had a "get gear X and you can make Y" mentality.acidbob wrote:Well I can understand that he wants to tell people lots of crap with all the attention he gets, it must be a little irritating if you are a very private person.
Too bad this picture finally revealed the secret to his success. (Which obviously is, of course, the cat.)
