completely stumped trying to get scala files to work on my Disting mk4
I've spend hours, going on days trying to get my Disting mk4 to work with scala files. I know I must be missing something super basic but I can't figure out what it is.
I have everything set up according tot he manual with all the files it says to have in the root directory of the micro SD card. I have the card the manual recommends. I'm getting the symbol "ER" before the name of the Scala file when I select the scale. I'm not sure what it means. There is no mention of it in the manual. here is an image of my root folder:
And this is my playlist file contents:
disting playlist v1
-kbm=example.kbm
05-19.scl
12-yarman24a.scl
al-farabi_9.scl
I suspect it has something to do with me not having any kbm files in my kbm folder but not sure where to find them or how to create them.
I think I bit off more than I can chew but thought I'd ask here as a last ditch effort.
Have any of you set this up successfully. I am very new to all this microtonal technology. I was working with it in my DAW with no issues but that I another deal outside of eurorack. Any help greatly appreicated.

EDIT: are you on MAC? You accidentally saved as rich text instead of plain text? Forgot to format your card as FAT32?

Thanks for the tip. I have updated the firmware and gotten help on the ES Discord but not making any progress troubleshooting there yet.
Yes, on Mac.

Can you confirm that you formatted the SD card as FAT32 and that you saved your text files as plain text not rich text?

for sure FAT 32. I did it 30 minutes ago. And just checked disk utility. just checked playlist and it's plain text. Os told me I needed kbm files, but I can't find any downloads or examples how to create my own. The manual suggests the kbm file are optional but os tells me they are required. If you know where I can download a generic one, please let me know. I tried creating my own but then the "ER" turned into a full spelled out "Error"EATyourGUITAR wrote: Wed Nov 26, 2025 1:29 pm Can you confirm that you formatted the SD card as FAT32 and that you saved your text files as plain text not rich text?

I hope this doesn't come off as pissy, and I don't have a Disting4, but i literally just googled "disting scala kbm" & the second or third result led me to a place to create kbms.
So maybe you could also try that.

So many pricks. So few kicks.

I saw that and it further stumped me. Did you actually go there? If so, is it clear to you?

Though there is a video off that link that I hadn’t found before that seems to be clarifying some things. Will check on that when I get back home. Thanks for the lead
