Handpans to become illegal?

I only just heard about this - was anybody else aware?

Since 2020, PANArt, the creator of the original Hang®, has been trying to claim copyright over the basic shape of the handpan. If successful, this could end the freedom of hundreds of makers and musicians worldwide.

How is this even possible? Would the Hang® even exist, were it not for the steel drum?

Oh! The Handpan, an upmarket version of the steelpan with only one scale, for hippies to meditate to. It's funny to watch their capitalist interests. Instead of sharing them with the world, they hide them away and mock others.
But if it means less of the annoying music that is often played with them, as well as the useless synth presets that nobody uses but which are easy to program, then so be it.

I always found having another use for wok lids amazing although I must admit I've grown tired of it a bit.

The idea alone that a single Hang Drum would easily get me one Serge panel has always put me off.
