Stranger things ending in the next couple months. What's the impact / legacy of its music?

To me the music is incredibly boring and comes accross as über derivative. So, I really hope nothing.

I like the theme and a couple of the leitmotifs of the score. It's generally inspired by Tangerine Dream (and TD has even covered it in live shows in return). Trying to listen to the whole score for a season as an album does get a little dull though IMHO.

I don't think it has much impact or relevance specifically to modular... in fact it uses Jupiter 8, Prophet 5, SH-2 and Arp 2600 (which is admittedly semi-modular, but still.)

Pretty sure I've heard a few C Maj 7 arpeggios in eurorack gear vids on YouTube. An easy point of reference maybe, rather than a real musical influence.

May be some impact on millennials and zoomers, many of whom seem to think dance music = electronic music. From a berlin perspective I’d say the score to Halt and Catch Fire is much better, though largely forgotten today.

IMO, the music is one of the defining features of that show. Fits the vibe perfectly and some very memorable score bits.

But it’s also supposed to be derivative. They chose S U R V I V E because they make music that evokes the era of the show and the soundtracks of sci fi and horror movies of the period.

I saw SURVIVE live once and they were really great. As for the show - the whole aesthetic is 80s horror, so why would anyone demand "groundbreaking" sounds or think that the music does anything less than serve what the creators are collectively trying to deliver? I still like Tangerine Dream, John Carpenter, et al. I don't feel harmed by the show's music. I think the most ridiculous part of the show is that the kids are all now senior citizens in real life.

The first season is great TV. The soundtrack is excellent. When I first watched the show, when it first came out, I felt inspired to step into the studio and make music after watching it, everytime. I’m rewatching with my kids, that are now old enough to not get terrified by the show, and I feel the same way - difference now is that my studio is in storage :(

I know they use modular stuff, but I tend to think of them more specifically as analog keyboard guys.

But, I mean, I already knew and liked Survive fine before the TV show so, though I like it okay too, I can't say that has been a big influence on me personally or anything.

That is my honest take on it. I LOVE T-Dream (somewhere up to later half of the 70’s), though. Especially live (, when it was still mostly improvised free rock as electronic music, or is it the other way around..?).

Only watched the first few seasons of the series, and was always bugged by the intro. Honestly can’t help it. I’m sure they can take my criticism… I son’t expect most people to like my ”music”, either.

And I don’t mean to diss anyone liking the soundtrack. Each to their own, right?
