Re: Holocene Non-Linear Memory Machine
I love the design of it. Had to force myself to not purchase/order as I'm in a time of no money... so the credit cards were sweating a bit. But it looks way cool.

Re: Holocene Non-Linear Memory Machine
Now if they'd just implement a second delay line we'd have the Soma Cosmos in eurorack I've been looking for...
Re: Holocene Non-Linear Memory Machine
Seen it in the PCA new stuff email…
Had some interesting features but seemed kinda expensive to me for the feature set…

Has anyone purchased this and is able to provide feedback?

Wish Behringer had cloned my wife. I coulda had something less expensive.

Just ordered one. Anyone else have one yet?
Re: Holocene Non-Linear Memory Machine
Oof I've been looking for a Cosmos alternative for quite a while. I haven't tried it, but the Praetereo 3rd party firmware for Versio looks promising.jschussler wrote: Fri Jun 30, 2023 11:11 pm Now if they'd just implement a second delay line we'd have the Soma Cosmos in eurorack I've been looking for...
Anyway, I'm intrigued by this Non-Linear Memory Machine and will keep an eye out for reviews.
Re: Holocene Non-Linear Memory Machine
I've got Cornflakes, Lubadh, Morphagene, W/ and a bunch of delays. I hope there isn't too much overlap with the other modules I have. The scrubbing seemed particularly nice on this unit and I like the feedback knob + pitch shifting as well.
Re: Holocene Non-Linear Memory Machine
This is the first I've heard of that. All I can find is a YouTube video with a link to a ZIP file on Google Drive with the BIN file. It's a bit annoying there isn't even a text document or description listing the controls -- one would have to rewatch the video and take notes I guess

Re: Holocene Non-Linear Memory Machine
Very nice. Don't know that this completely replaces the Cosmos, but it's well into that territory....decimeter wrote: Wed Jul 26, 2023 12:33 pmOof I've been looking for a Cosmos alternative for quite a while. Got the Praetereo firmware installed, it's very cool. Started a new thread for it:

I was close to ordering multiple times. Would love to hear your thoughts after it has arrived and how it compares to other modules that are out there.

Re: Holocene Non-Linear Memory Machine
In the demo, the Holocene sounds much more like a granular manipulator with lots of manual controls that happens to have a long buffer. The Praetereo on the other hand is a plain looper without much processing going on. Both sound really cool though - I need both
which would mean a 3rd Versio in my less-than-400hp rack. Would that be overkill?

Re: Holocene Non-Linear Memory Machine
In my experience you can't have too many Versios. Decide you don't need the functionality you have? Flash a new firmware and it's a whole different module! Really like mine, have several.Arrandan wrote: Thu Jul 27, 2023 4:45 am which would mean a 3rd Versio in my less-than-400hp rack. Would that be overkill?![]()
Re: Holocene Non-Linear Memory Machine
Praetereo developer here. As others have mentioned, it's more of a looper, with two big, asynchronous loops. It's funny you should mention this, though: I also made an asynchronous, multi-line delay network that's pretty similar to the Cosmos. Maybe I should port it over to the Versio...decimeter wrote: Wed Jul 26, 2023 12:33 pmOof I've been looking for a Cosmos alternative for quite a while. Re: Holocene Non-Linear Memory Machine
Can we make this thread about the Holocene Non-Linear Memory Machine and not the new Versio firmware?
Re: Holocene Non-Linear Memory Machine
Did not mean to derail this thread, especially because the NLMM looks pretty cool. We need more modules that let you scrub through an audio buffer with CV!
All the examples sound a little too lo-fi for my tastes, though. I wonder if that's because of the demo, or if it just sounds like that. Looks like the sample rate is only 22kHz, so it might be the latter.

Re: Holocene Non-Linear Memory Machine
Just got mine. First impressions: I really wish this thing had a clock input. Also, the freeze button is red when it's *recording* and unlit when it's frozen. Sort of the opposite of what I'd expect, but whatever. Levels are kind of low at 100% wet. Overall though, I'm having a lot of fun with it and it's staying.
It would be really cool to be able to set the time of the window of the grain loop (is that the right way of explaining it?)

Re: Holocene Non-Linear Memory Machine
So, I actually contacted Holocene due to the low output level and they sent me a replacement board. Much hotter output now. Very happy with this module.

While i'm working on a proper demo video for the NLMM, I've used it quite a bit in my recent demo of the Amnis, for those who might want to check it out:
