XL recordings is just hitting it out of the ball park with their signees
I like XL but let's not give them toooooo much credit here Blawan had been doing this for more than a decade when he released his first record with them. R&S—to name another legacy electronic label—had him in 2011, for example, and he had heat on him even before that release. It's not like he was some huge gamble.wuff_miggler wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 3:53 pm XL recordings is just hitting it out of the ball park with their signeesAnd its funny - for an old 80s/90s "first electronic" label to do it type imprint - they are SOOOO fucking onpoint....I wont bother listing what else they're putting out - i'd expect you to know if you're following electronic

comment has nothing to do with them uncovering/blowing up Blawan. he's been on his own tip doing awesome stuff. They have still been putting out some really obscure shit...Egyptian artist Rozzma for example...they put that out before everyone and their dog thought they should be adding doumbeks to their club shit. LSDXOXO...Overmono....i could go on. I was actually going to include R&S in my previous comment too - but didnt think i needed torew_ wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 11:04 pmI like XL but let's not give them toooooo much credit here Blawan had been doing this for more than a decade when he released his first record with them. (EP is especially good, even amongst Blawan's catalog, no arguments there.)
There's a great course with him on his process here: https://www.homeofsound.co.uk/p/blawan- ... ull-course
Sweet, I’ll definitely check that out. Cheers for the reply, v interestingalerion wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2023 12:49 amThere's a great course with him on his process here: https://www.homeofsound.co.uk/p/blawan- ... ull-course
Methods change, but at the time it's a lot of exotic Eurorack distortions, VST distortions, flangers, layers of notch filters, aggressive de-essing in the box, and resampling through high-end mastering gear. The main trick is just record, tons of effects, resample, repeat.
I guess? The brothers Overmono had been releasing music for years (including Tessela on R&S, though that's just a coincidence, it doesn't really matter), they were hardly a gamble. LSDXOXO was also established—I'll point to an RA profile/feature in 2019, but he was around before then too—before he released anything on XL. Certainly neither of these count as "obscure shit"?wuff_miggler wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2023 12:31 amcomment has nothing to do with them uncovering/blowing up Blawan. he's been on his own tip doing awesome stuff. current favourite:
Hard to find anything like Blawan ...
I’ve heard this one, big fan of the Zenker Brothers, great stuff!
A lot of good stuff also in this setlist: https://trackid.net/audiostreams/blawan ... tival-2022 + explore the record labels
