Wallwart pedal type processors + euro (ZAAAPPP)
So, when i first got into modular - i had to get my 9U low coast PSU2 case modded in order to stop it zapping the shit out me.
All good - i added a waldorf KB37 to my setup - and it behaved nicely with the LC9 case.
Now - i've added a wallwart powered processor to my setup - and it zapped the shit out me....this isnt much fun.
What can i do to stop this happening? surely there is something - tonnes of pros use pedals with modular...surely they're not getting zapped all day and night?

To say that math is important because it is useful is like saying that children are important because we can train them to do spiritually meaningless labor in order to increase corporate profits. Or is that in fact what we are saying?

This is a good general description of what might be causing it:

Personally I can recommend having a trained electrician check the electrical systems at your house/studio. It's money well spent!

Re: Wallwart pedal type processors + euro (ZAAAPPP)
sorry to bump - i was just thinking - im using a pedal format piece of gear that's powered by a 9V DC wallwart, is the correct way to go about fixing this:
A) power the device with hq isolated power brick
B) power external synths i plan to use with it - via the same isolated power brick.
Voila?
If you want to use this pedal with eurorack, do intellijel palettes have some option for "Safe" interfacing with 9v DC devices?

"Zapping the shit out of me" ..... are you getting hit with 9vdc? .. or 12vdc? .. or line power (y'know, that shit coming out of the wall socket?)?

when i touched the pedal switches - i got a decently painful zap. How do i know which is which ?

Sounds like a wiring issue. I’d call an electrician unless you want to risk a larger zap down the line.
My guess would be hot neutral, but you should absolutely not be getting line voltage on equipment casings (e.g. pedal switches).

guessing if it was line voltage you wouldn't go near it again.wuff_miggler wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2023 7:57 pm when i touched the pedal switches - i got a decently painful zap. How do i know which is which ?

this really annoys me...if you have the know how as a designer - to design a complicated circuit - why the fuck are you not able to get the power basics down pat ? :(
i will contact the manufacturer and hope they can help.

Re: Wallwart pedal type processors + euro (ZAAAPPP)
I can't even feel a 9vdc shock, and 12vdc is only a tiny bit past a tickle. Line voltage, on the other hand, causes me instantaneous and severe nerve pain... makes me want to get rid of whatever I'm holding like right now!
If you're getting line voltage on casings/panels (or things attached to said casings such as the footswitch or the ~handle~ of a 1/4 inch cable that's plugged in to an FX device) then you got some seriously fuddup electrical issues going on (sounds similar to the problem singers that play guitar on stage have when they get a 120vac shock across the lips when they're singing and their mouth touches the mic while their fingers are on the metal strings of the guitar ... fekkin meow!!). Time to contact someone with the proper certifications and licensing to take a gander.

Re: Wallwart pedal type processors + euro (ZAAAPPP)
Ive used socket and see on my power outlets (which i've been led to believe are what sparkies use as a first tool in diagnosing power issues) - and got all greens on all outputs in my house.
I will see if i can call someone out.
Are pedals interfacing with euro supposed to be connected to each other a certain way? ie.
Euro gear (with doepfer PSU 2) connected to one power outlet.
Pedal connected to 9v dc wall wart...
if the house power is AOK - is this set up theoretically supposed to work peacefully? or can it cause problems - even if house power is OK?
