Re: Chirper!
Yeah, a Chirper arrived here this week. Here's the configuration for now. Can't wait to reach the evening of the third day, Sunday from this moment.
In the table top case front and centre is the joystick. Apparently there are some joystick ideas discussed in the recently released Allen Strange publications. Does he know about the Chirper?

Anything can be complicated, simplicity is hard.

Hi! I'm interested in Chirper. What are the main differences between blue and red version? Is the red box will be still produced?
Re: Chirper!
separate v/0 inputs for the 3 parts and an external expander that breaks more features out and adds some stuff as well, I imagine the degree of usefulness primarily depends on how much other banana stuff you plan on encorporating.

Re: Chirper!
Also, V2 has an external input (switchable) to feed the filter and a different way of handling filter outputs (three way switch instead of two way mix). There’s the size difference which cuts both ways depending on your preferences. Both are fabulous.

Re: Chirper!
The Board Chirper is also still around if one prefers some of the V1's unique features, and it's a wonderfully playable instrument in its own right with all the touchpads.

Re: Chirper!
I have all three! They are wonderful inn their own unique way. V1 with three large knobs invite to a kind of gesture based/approached playing. Board Chirper really shines as a touch device and can the touch pads can lead to sounds I’ve never heard on the red. And the modular Chirper with the expander is just a crazy fun and exploratory device opening up the design Even a bit further. «Losing» some of the gesture/touch aspect of the other two, but add a whole lot of other options with the filter input, expander etc. all three flavours are highly recommended though!! My favourite BB standalone, board and modular device. Now I’m just hoping for a future Chirper standalone, battery powered with inbuilt speaker and an added ring mod!! That would be sweet!!
Re: Chirper!
Thanks to all four of you for these details and your informed opinions. For now I have 2 red boxes, COFilter and PTDelay .Red Chirper seemed a more logical option to me but I also have a Cocoquantus and a Plumbutter which could be good modulation/fm sources if I go the blue version.
By the way, I just noticed that the red Chirper is no longer in production. Can it sometimes be found second hand or is it rather utopian?

Yeah, the red is no longer in production. They do however pop up from time to time on the used marked. That said, I find that the blue Chirper with the expander (and the drive VCA) in a 5fw box makes a very Nice «closed system»/instrument on it’s own. I don’t use it with any other modulation sources, when I play. Apart for it’s size, which of course makes big gestures, a bit more «cumbersome», it does sounds and behave pretty much the same way as the red. So really only positives in regards of more modulation options/white noise/slew etc. with the expander, which opens up the sound palette of the Chirper even more. Seeing that second hand red chirpers seem to change hands at roughly the same price of the chirper+expander, I guess that is also something to have in mind….
Whatever route you take, I’m sure you’ll love it though, such a lovely instrument

Re: Chirper!
Thanks a lot T.Jervell for all these informations and advices. The 5fw box (chirper + expander + vca) could be an option for me. Only need format jumbler to pass audio signal to the 2 red boxes. Is the filter out on blue Chirper the main output, equivalent to 1/4″ main output of the red chirper? For now I have no intention to follow the blue building blocks road, perhaps later. There are no specific issues using it with eurorack or Ciat Lonbarde instruments, except perhaps CL brown jacks?

Re: Chirper!
Well the filter out, with filter input switch to internal, is like the main out of the red Chirper. But with the flexibility you get with the VCA and osc outs etc etc. you can send other interesting audio signals out too of course. Tom makes some Nice banan to jack cabels, but Yeah a format jumbler box works Well to. If you make sure to connect the boxes sharing common ground (black banana input) you can also make a banana->jack adapter like in the enclosed picture. They work really Well, and there is a post somewhere in the BB subforum guiding you on how to make your own. It is really quite simple.
As for conectivity to other systems. Euro works great, and I’ve also used it with my c-L gear, but have used the diode direct module to stop any unwanted negative voltages into the C-L’s

Re: Chirper!
Thanks again for all these details, it becomes much clearer in my mind. Banana/jack adapter seems the simplest solution to put in place to make all this little world communicate together. I will try to find this thread in the BB subforum. What is the diode direct module you mention?
