Hi,
Hopefully someone can help me with this.
I've recently built the plague bearer and its not doing anything, I'm guessing I've messed it up somehow, no magic smoke lost so hopefully I haven't messed things up too bad.
The input signal comes out the output very quietly with level turned all the way up, but nothing else effects the sound. I'm guessing I've messed up something with the power?
Is there anything obvious to check from this symptom? Are there any points to test to try and work out what I've done wrong?
I've done a bunch of soldering before, but never SMD, so I'm guessing I've messed up with one of them.
I've attached some images, hopefully someone is able to spot something I've done wrong.
Kind regards,
Josh

Oh bummer!
Do you have a digital multimeter? I would check the right side and left side of the plug to make sure you have 12v and -12v wheb plugged in on the back side of the board, and then see if it makes it past the diodes right next to those plugs?
Some of the transistors (three legged parts in the middle of the board) look like the solder is blobbed on, which sometimes fails to connect the part to the pad. This happens quite often, so check continuity between those legs and their nearest connection point? It might just be the pic, too.
Good luck, just be patient and I’m sure you’ll uncover something!

This was my first try at smd as well. Nothing looks too terrible, but I would re flow everything. Some of the soldering looks a little rough.
That's all I did with my kit. Went slow and made sure to reflow if anything was looking suspect at all.
Good luck!

I second the above replies. It looks pretty good, no glaring cold joints - although I am a bit suspicious of pin 2 of IC1 (second down on the left side), but it's hard to tell. If you can post some angle views from the right side of the board - like the two left-side views posted above - we can check out the joints on the other sides of the components too.
The easiest fix is usually to get some flux (pen or bottle), put it on each of the pads, and reflow the solder with your iron. As mentioned above, excess solder can hide the joint. Your iron will pick up some of the extra solder when it reflows, so just wipe the tip of your iron on a sponge or brass wool after each joint and It'll take a bunch of it off.

Thanks All,
Reflowing things worked, I guess I wont know which specific solder joint was bad, but its working now and putting out some delightful sounds!

Heck Ya, how good is that feeling when it finally comes alive? I had a Plaits that gave me a ton of trouble and now I think it’s my favorite module - like a problematic puppy that finally pees outside!
