CGS 522 difficulties

Post by dankalmanson »

I've been troubleshooting this module on and off for months and I probably should have written this sooner. The top 3 freq bands work but below that does not. It will also sometimes start to feedback and self oscillate, especially when the first three bands are negatively attenuated. I'm unsure why this is happening. I've tried rewiring, switching pots, switching ICs and checking every solder joint on both boards. Is there something I am missing or maybe someone knows a place I can check? You'd think because I can locate the circuits for each band on the PCBs I would be able to find something but I've been :bang:

I know that Laurie will fix it for you if you send it in, give him a ring.

I had many issues with Elby modules that ended up being faults with the PCB design so I'd check the circuit itself from the traces. Make sure everything that should be going to ground is actually grounded. I built an ES28 and he simply forgot to draw in the cathode to ground traces for the LEDs so the manufacturer never printed them. That was a fun month.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll send him an email. I'm hoping it is something simple and overlooked.

On many of their earlier revision PCBs there were lots of cutouts and jumpers needed.
I remember the screenshots with explanations at their web site.
