EVENTIDE H 90
EVENTIDE H 90
Is anyone using the Eventide H90 ? I recently acquired a oberhiem obx8 and was wondering if anyone was using the H90 with a synth. I have a store credit so I was considering getting an H90. I know it replaced the H9. I’ve heard demos of it but was interested in what any users might have to say about it ,possibly the pros and cons. I’ve heard it’s like having two H9s . Was also wondering what other effects units might compete with it in the H90s price range. I don’t play guitar or bass and would be using the H 90 with the oberhiem OBX8. My application would be in stereo and line level. There seems to be alot of nice effects pedals nowadays and was wondering what others might be using . Thanks Appreciate any insight

Re: EVENTIDE H 90
I had one but sold it - nothing wrong with it, some of the effects are classics (ie Blackhole, Eventide's harmonizer algorithms) but even with the improved interface over the H9 it made more sense to use it with the editor software... and if I've got an editor open on my computer that everything's running into anyway, why bother with a pedal instead of plugins (especially since I have most of the Eventide algorithms it's running)?
For live performance or if you're a DAWless person, hard to think of a superior multi-effect competitor - but if you're involving a computer anyway, I tend to think effects should have either a sound (analog distortions, tape delays) or an interface (the Chase Bliss reverb's sliders, perhaps) that aren't easily replicated with plugins.

Agree with the above, but I'm keeping mine because I like to play around without the computer sometimes, maybe in a different room. The UA pedals are outstanding too, and no menus. Sounds great with Prophet 10. Looking forward to playing some Osmose with the H90 in about a month.
Re: EVENTIDE H 90
I wouldn’t be using it with a computer although I have a ipadpro. I don’t want to have to run an app to edit things. Hopefully the H90 would suffice in and of it self. I use a Roland space echo pedal on my moog voyager. I have a sequential pro3 although I don’t use any other effects with it since it has effects.
I also have an ensoniq DP4 . It’s pretty old. Was wondering if there were any drawbacks using a H90 since it was probably designed for guitarists although its in stereo and has line inputs and inserts. Seems like it has multiple configurations that would be useful. I’m just not familiar with what most popular
Effects units that are used with synths. I wouldn’t be running running multiple effects pedals together . I just want to enhance the oberhiem and remembered the H9s. Was wondering if the H90 was a vast improvement. I saw that sone guitarists used two H9s on thier pedal boards. I didn’t know if there was any other effects units that could go head to head with the H90 at its price point. Thanks

Re: EVENTIDE H 90
I have had the DP/2 since it was new and I used to sell Ensoniq products back then. H90 is definitely an upgrade over the DPs in terms of sound quality and what the algos can do (it's been like 30ish years after all). I always found editing on the DPs a bit of a pain. H90 is easier with the better screen and more encoders. There's a learning curve, but it's not bad at all for a hardware multieffect.Seqpro3 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 1:02 am I wouldn’t be using it with a computer although I have a ipadpro. I remember that DP4 cost a lot back in the day. It seemed pretty deep though. Unfortunately ensoniq is no more.
I have an ensoniq fizmo from 1997. They seem to be rare. Mines mint , was only used a few times. I read about the voltage regulator being out of spec on those causing it to unexpectedly fry the DSP. I lost my adapter for it but I saw you can get the adapter new for them. I hadn’t realized they were a sought after synth. I would sell mine if I could get enough for it so I could get enough to get a prophet5 rev 4. The rack fizmos are even more rare and I’ve seen prices as high as $9000. That seems crazy. Must be like a cult following for that synth possibly in certain genres of electronic music I read you have to look inside to see if the wrong voltage regulator was used or not. Luckily I haven’t been able to turn it on avoiding the potential hazard of frying it. If I remember correctly
It was called a trans wave synth. It had a unique sound although the one thing I remember was that you wouldn’t want to play to much as far chord voicings were concerned being it didn’t take much to get it to sound over complicated with all the trans waves morphing between sounds. Really unique sounding though and had that wild purple color scheme it sounded best when it was used in a minimalist approach being that everything got pretty busy very quickly. Less was more with that synth. My fizmo is almost virgin. I would think that it would be a small niche that would be interested in it though. I would think it would be a great opportunity for someone if they were seriously interested in getting a fizmo that was like new in 2023. I would have to have a look and see if that voltage regulator was suspect or not. I still favor analog though even with all the new digtal synths they simulate analog well.

I ended up getting the eventide space instead of the H90

Re: EVENTIDE H 90
i have space and timefactor, and have thought about H90 if and only if the headroom and generally converter and analog stages have been further improved. i has been arround ten years since the factors originally came out. i am just speculating of course.. anyone compared them ?
downside of course, and what i am afraid the most, is losing the immediacy of control with barrage of knobs on these two pedals. its not just a question of quickly setting up for each track/song, but the live tweaking in performance. especially on time factor - two delay times, two feedbacks, filters etc.
beside possibly fidelity, only other advantage i see of H90, is easier dealing with presets per track, and having one box instead of two to carry.
fwiw knobs and portability are the main reason i bought the factors. in the studio, i have Orville and h3000 that pedals just do not compare to sonically.
anyone got more thoughts on Factors versus h90 ?
thanks

Meris LVX is supposedly nice, similar in features and class to H90. Don’t have any experience with either, but both have been on my radar.
I actually had an H9 for a while in a Buchla system (put behind a 4u panel). I quite liked controlling it via iPhone over Bluetooth (at least for building/editing patches). Real time interaction would’ve been a different story.

Re: EVENTIDE H 90
I may wind up with an H90 eventually (Love my H9) but it's a lot of money at the moment. I'll wait a year for the used market to drop a bit. The algos will sound just as good in 2024
(Although these days even this kind of thing doesn't seem so certain)

Just got mine (for synth/insert use exclusively) and so far I like it but I'm partially mystified by the interface. Long-time Eventide user here and the big box interface is pretty intuitive so getting my head wrapped around this might take some adjustment.

Congrats on the new H90! If you have any questions, feel free to post them in our stompbox forum - https://www.eventideaudio.com/forums/fo ... tompboxes/jimfowler wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 9:09 pm Just got mine (for synth/insert use exclusively) and so far I like it but I'm partially mystified by the interface. Don’t get me wrong: I’m stoked on it but it’ll just take some acclimation.
