I love Make Noise, I have many of their modules, but this is a flaw, I don't know if it's hardware related or software but it shouldn't be there.
Mine doesn't do that, but I'd be curious to know how to make it do that? Maybe not all the time, but sounds like a neat noise.

Is mimeophon considered analog? Since it's "firmware" based, I assumed that meant digital.

Nope. Digital

Set the Color to as bright as possible and crank your system's output.

Definitely digital. It was modeled after the DeltaLabs Effectron II 19" rack unit digital flanger/delay from the early 80s (which I actually own along with the original Effectron).

It's talked about here:

I just updated. Made a recording in Ableton before and after same settings the noise floor on mine dropped by 8 db.

Are you sure your Mimeophon has the same input gain setting as it did after the update?

After the update I repeated the test I posted earlier and I get a very similar noise profile -- the level fluctuates by a few dB but it's the same average. (Which is quiet enough for me not to worry about anyway...)

That's not insignificant. Thanks for doing the test. I thought it seemed a bit more tamed.
Cheers.

Yes I measured a drop of the noise floor as well after the update, around 10db!

Didn’t realize there were updates at all for Mimeophon!

I also found increasing Color, above unity added too much noise.

Has anyone else installed the newest update and notice the hiss/noise db levels drop when set closer to dry?

With the update the noise seems more uniform for me, it’s now similar dry or wet. However I have to turn up the levels very high before I can hear any noise.

That is a bit alarming, I'll admit. WTF? Nothing like that for me (yet). What could have caused that for him? I did see parts of this video when it was released, but I must have missed that. Hrrrrm. :woah:

My Morphagene has it and has had it since day 1... it is acoustic noise and not in the signal path at all. It is faint, but I can hear it from about 3' away in quiet room-- it does not cause any problems for me. No complaints from me with either MG or Mimeophon.

yeah im just sayin because that video made it feel like our mimeo's & morph's are ticking time bombs and its gonna break and have that happen any minute now. My Morph (#2626) has had it since day one as well. I do definitely get irritated by the acoustic noise, but not as much as I love experimenting with my Morphagene. It would be a different story if it was causing it to not function properly.

FWIW, I ran the firmware update this morning and the dry noise seemed to drop noticeably. It never really bothered me much before, but it's worth running. Makes me think it's not "coil whine" if it's fixable in firmware.

To my knowledge those are two different topics. One is the discussion about noise in the audio path. The "coil whine" is acoustic noise which emits from the module itself -> please see the linked Make Noise statement above (in context 'Morphagene'). I don't know if the second topic also applies to the Mimeophon.

Yeah that was odd. Wondering if it came from a place of ignorance or what.
