ZeKit: Problems with Midi

Post by rara avis »

Hello folks,

My ZeKit has just arrived from ebay and I'm just screwing around here. :yay: Now I would like to feed the ZeKit with midi data, which unfortunately doesn't work, neither via my midi keyboard nor via Ableton. Am I doing something wrong?

Actually, it should work if I set both midi channels to 1. With the ZeKit, this should work via "WAVE & MOTIFS" and then via 1. Then neither WAVE, OPTIONS nor MOTIFS should light up and I press 2. Now MIDI signals should arrive, shouldn't they? :hmm:

Unfortunately, this does not work. It would be great if someone knew more. :spin:

Take care,

Robert

Dear rara avis,

I would be glad if I can help you!

One question though : the Zekit you bought, is it a DIY version (assembled by someone else) or an assembled version?

Dear Frédéric,

the previous owner said it is an assembled version. I'm attaching a few pictures, maybe you can identify it somewhere.

Thank you very much for your help!

Hi again,
that's definitely an assembled version...
Have you tried sending notes on MIDI channel 2 ;)

Hey Frédéric,

I've figured it out now: I just have to set a midi channel in my input device above the midi channel of the ZeKit, then it works. Midikeyboard on 2 and ZeKit on 1 and so on.

Thank you for your effort. It's a great device that you've built. I know what I'm going to do this weekend!

If my wallet allows it, the Töörö will be next.

Thank you very much and all the best!

Hi Robert,

this is on me, I too often assume people think like programmers.

MIDI channels range from 1 to 16, it's 16 different numbers.
In binary, it is represented using 4 bits, with numbers ranging from 0 to 15 (also 16 numbers).

To sum it up, if you want to set channel 1 on the Zekit, you must enter 0 and not 1, which corresponds to all LEDs off.
For channel 16 (=15), all LEDs must be on. That makes 8+4+2+1 = 15.

That's it ;)

Thank you for the feedback, ZeKit is really a capable machine and with it's own grit and durt, I am glad you're enjoying it! 8-)
