ZeKit: Problems with Midi

Hello folks,

My ZeKit has just arrived from ebay and I'm just screwing around here. Now I would like to feed the ZeKit with midi data, which unfortunately doesn't work, neither via my midi keyboard nor via Ableton. Am I doing something wrong?

Actually, it should work if I set both midi channels to 1. With the ZeKit, this should work via "WAVE & MOTIFS" and then via 1. Then neither WAVE, OPTIONS nor MOTIFS should light up and I press 2. Now MIDI signals should arrive, shouldn't they?

Unfortunately, this does not work. It would be great if someone knew more.

One question though : the Zekit you bought, is it a DIY version (assembled by someone else) or an assembled version?

Have you tried sending notes on MIDI channel 2

Hey Frédéric,

I've figured it out now: I just have to set a midi channel in my input device above the midi channel of the ZeKit, then it works. Midikeyboard on 2 and ZeKit on 1 and so on.

Hi Robert,

this is on me, I too often assume people think like programmers.

MIDI channels range from 1 to 16, it's 16 different numbers.
In binary, it is represented using 4 bits, with numbers ranging from 0 to 15 (also 16 numbers).

To sum it up, if you want to set channel 1 on the Zekit, you must enter 0 and not 1, which corresponds to all LEDs off.
For channel 16 (=15), all LEDs must be on. That makes 8+4+2+1 = 15.
